I would start bow hunting just to come to that 2007 JHO archery event - no kidding!

Speck, I'd be down like James Brown for a JHO bow hunt. That sounds awesome!

I'd be down like Downtown Johnny Brown. Please stay away from Valentine's Day though.

I all ready checked. V-Day is on a Wednesday. Both weekends clear! That's not during Lent, is it Nate.

Nope. Lent usually starts end of Feb or beginning of March. And if the hunt gets scheduled during that time I will gladly pass on campfire entertaining duty to One Track. He's quite good at it. You might just wear a cup though. He likes to trip and land face first into people laps as he avoids a spill into the fire ring.

That's a cheap shot. I can think of a few myself. But, I will refrain.

Ive seen both y'all wrecked at 'the fire. Nate becomes Gabby McStoryteller, and Brent becomes Mr Excitement. He dances, sings, it is almost awe inspiring. I aint much to talk though. I play horrible tunes on the guitar.

Great thread here you guys got it goin on for that hunt.
I have never ben closer than driving by Tejon on the interstate. Sure looks inviting and these stories and pics are great reading.
Isn't that place kind of cold and wet in February though?
Seems to me I remember somebodys pictures and stories of stuck up pickemup trucks with flatties in the lime slidin down down and guys crying and jumpin out of windows and hell I don't think I wanna go there in the winter!

Maybe in October.
I've become such a wuss in my old age.
Hats off to Couse for taking it down deep! My hats off to you man.

Yup, you would not want to be there in the wet months of February. Cody, the Tejon guide, took me around in one of the deepest canyons and ravines. Some roads are so steep that even on a dry surface the wheels of my 4WD 4runner would just spin over rocks and loose soil -- and twice, the gas pedal was floored and I was scared it will stall.

And I'm saying this despite my off road experiences in mountains of Borneo and the Phils. during monsoons with transfer case engaged in low 4, 4 wheels on tire chains and yet had to use my winch.

Once again, GREAT JOB ALL, good stories and photos about real hunting...
"The California Central Coast is one magical, enchanting place. From the ridges of Tejon to the hills of San Jose, the terrain and the oaks and chaparral and the cool coastal breezes just ups the excitement in being alive. It is awesome.............and wonders of wonders, those hills and grasslands have a lot of wild pork breeding and fattening. "
For those who are thinking of hunting on questionable public land for wild pigs, you need to read this thread... This is the real deal!

Gotta love that trick photography. That hog looks like a 400 lber. He actually dressed out at 140 or 141. I just had my buddy back away from the hog about five feet. Crazy.

Just gotta add... Congrats to all of you guys. I know this post has been around for a while so I can't figure out why I never jumped in on it?!?

I do wish y'all could've hunted with the rest of us for Ham Slam. I think I've met most of you before (except for coues), and you're the best type of peeps to hunt with.

Brent, for some reason, I never connected that your gun blew up at Tejon until Speck was talking about it on this recent JHO trip. My god, I can't imagine being in some of those canyons and having an accident like that!!!

Great looking Hogs, esp that pure Russian Coues shot!!!
