Congrats to jbcaptain11 on winning the August contest. His choice for the September contest is' "Father & Son." I realize that some entrants may only have daughters, nephews, & nieces. Also some hunters are women, without husbands. Due to this, I'm amending the contest, to encourage more entrants. Post images of youth outdoors with an adult. The goal is to capture the experience of our youth engaging in outdoor activities with a parent, or relative.

My son going back to work with my husband cutting rye hay. The child, who works harder than most adults, loves doing any kind of work with his father or grandfathers. Hard work must be taught and modeled by the adults in the child's life.

Although there isn't an adult in the photo, I was the one taking the picture. I took my son and daughter fishing on one of our local streams before school started. I taught them how to catch and release using a barbless fly.

The father-son category caught my attention, because for the past 6 years I have been hunting it has been with my dad. He had never hunted, but he took the Hunter Ed course with me and most of my trips have been just the two of us. Saying I am fortunate that he was willing to dive into something completely new just because his son showed interest in hunting would be a huge understatement. Since most of our hunting has been just the two of us, the majority of our pictures only have one of us in it since the other is behind the camera. Realizing this has inspired me to take the time to set up the camera on a timer and get more pics with both of us in them. Luckily I have this one from a muzzleloader pig hunt back in 2009.
Sorry I couldn't make it any bigger, if you click on it and open it in a new tab you can zoom in a little more.

After 7 years of collecting points and waiting for my boy to turn 12,
We finally drew X-12 this year with 8 between the two of us. We arrived in Bridgeport last Friday,
Got set up in our room, had a little lunch, and went out to do some looking around
In anticipation of opening morning, now just a half a day away!
The evening scouting session didn't provide any buck sightings, but did show some promising areas for the morning. We set out early, and arrived at our first spot well before light. We spent the time reminiscing on days gone by and planning memories yet to be made. Finaly it was Time, time to find his first buck. It was light enough to see, and fifty feet down the road we were already seeing deer. The first group held 2 or 3 does and a tall spike buck that my son already had his glass on. We moved up the dirt road and quickly spot a legal forked horn buck. My son had prepared himself to take the first legal buck, the good Lord put before him. We got out and now it was time to put in action, what we had practiced many times. The shot was 100-120 yards
and broadside. The rifle barked, but there was no "whack" what happened? A clean miss. We watch the buck walk off unharmed, other than maybe a chill from the contrail of Little T's 100 grain corelok. We debriefed and I reminded him of the story of my first shot at a possible first buck, and how the shot hit the dirt about 5 feet in front of the deer. We regrouped and headed off in hopes of redemption. We decided to take a walk over the
Nearby hills and look into some of the hidden bowls that lay ahead. After 30 min. of glassing, we decide to head back down the hill and see if any new deer were crossing below. There were some of the same does from earlier, still milling around. As we were looking, I spot a buck, and it wasn't the smaller forky from before. I'm able to I'D him as a nice 3x3. My son hears me and replies 3x3? I say YES and you are gonna drop him! We again get out and prepare for the shot. He was remarkably calm considering what had transpired earlier and staring at a beautiful buck about 130 yards away. He's steady and waiting patiently for the buck to present a good shot opportunity, and clear a nearby doe. HERE WE GO! Broadside and we agree, time to do this! He squeezes and his Savage 243 barks again. This time, the unmistakable sound can heard and the rack that was
Visible a moment ago, instantly drops to the earth below. I'll never forget the look on his face as he turns around to find me screamin my head off like a mad man! That smile is burned in my mind forever! I let him lead the way in search of his downed buck. He finds him and the reality starts to sink in for the both of us.
We take some photos and then we filled out his first ever big game tag, and placed it on to make it legal. Now the work begins, gutting, dragging, and loading up. Unlike most work, he's up to the task this time! Later that afternoon, he got to stand behind me as I was blessed with the opportunity to take a nice meat buck, and tag out with my second buck this season, first time filling 2 tags! WOW
My son also has the opportunity to tag out, he drew an either sex junior tag at Liggett, we leave next Friday!

We Are Truly Blessed! Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed!

Which photo are we voting on for #5?

As per the rules:
4. You may post up to two photos in the contest using the following format:
A. Entries must be posted in individual posts, ie. - one entry = 1 post, 2 entries = 2 posts.
B. Each entry must be numbered consecutively (based on previous entry number) to make it easier for voting.
C. If your entry is not numbered, it may not be entered for a vote. Moderators are not responsible for adding numbers
to your posts.

The problem was taken care of.
