SFW,RMEF to take away25% of UT elk tags

I hope you guys realize that SFW and RMEF are in the works to pull 25% of all the limited elk tags in UT and raffle them off at a SFW convention in UT next year. You now will lose 1of4 tags unless you can afford to go to UT in person to apply for these, and yes residents will also have a shot at them. In perspective they only will pull 2.5% of the resident tags for the same

The good news is that Utah DWR will still be able to take in more money from nonresidents with the 50% tag price increase, even though they are giving out 25% less tags The wealthy nonresidents who win the resident portion of the tags at the convention will give them even more. And the poor bastards like me who really can not afford the price increases do not have to worry about drawing the tags any more. Sounds like a win all the way around!!!!

Even better news. Maybe they will cherry pick the really desirable tags and hide them in the percentages! They might even throw in all tags, counting antlerless, when determining the total to start with. Maybe we will not even have a chance at the sheep and bison tags at all.....Detect any sarcasim? No not from me.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. It's so hard to draw a limited entry elk tag for non-residents that this just doesn't seem right.....maybe Taulman will go after Utah next.

It wouldn't be so bad if there were only 1 quota for both non-residents and residents.

Also, I bet someone could sue and win over discriminatory 2-tiered pricing system for non-resident/resident tags.....it'll probably happen at some point.

Just think, Utah residents now may get a shot at all the neighboring Nevada and Arizona tags due to the lawsuit, while giving up only 7.5% (second lowest in the west, next to Oregon) of their limited entry draw tags to their neighbors. They are not in thr 9th district court. Cool. Are they asking for something? Guees I had better shut up now.

This will put the nonres application pool percentage at only 7% now. The elk tag numbers would have to increase 200% total just to get the nonres numbers back to where they were before the pulling of these tags. but yet the reidents will only need to gain 2.5% increase in tags to get back to where they started.
Voice your concerns to these groups, tell them you would rather give money some other way rather than have to fly to UT and go to a convention.
Look at it this way, you buy a 350 dollar plane ticket, 100$ motel, 150$ rental car, 100% food for roughly a total of 700$ and where did the money go??? to the airlines, rental companies, motels, ect. Why not raise the normal nonresident application fees and leave us out of the convention. that way the money goes directly to the cause, not the economy. United airlines isnt going to donate jack squat to elk management. this is a real stuipid plan that makes USO look more appealing.....
Remember, the nonresidents lost 10 times as many tags as the residents if this goes through, but yet the nonresidents will only get a gain return or 1 out of evey tag in the future!!

Yeah, states are getting out of control IMO in terms of what policies are being set on non-residents.

It's Purely Political -- an easy sell to the Residents.

Lawsuits are stupid. Being reasonable is by far the best solution. WY, at 20-25%, CO at 40%, and NM at 22% are some of Utah's other neighbors. NV and AZ might be forces by the lawsuit into something completly unreasonable (no resident preference). I personally think Wyoming and New Mexico are closest to a reasonable percentage. I feel 20% is about right for nonresidents. 10% is too stingy. Obviously. That is why AZ and NV were sued. SFW and Utah are afraid of being sued too, yet they do this, reducing it to a measly 7.5%. Are they asking for a lawsuit?
