Not sharks like you were thinking of, I raise these guys in a 55 gal. tank at home. I am always trying to get just the wright picture but with the glass between me and them it is very tuff. Can't shoot with out a flash even at 800 asa because they are always moving, and it is so hard with a flash. Any helpful tips would be very well taken.
Thanks, Tonka

that is a tough circumstance to shoot under. can you get any more light in or above the tank in some way? what kinds of shutter speeds are you getting at 800?

So far I just let it shoot in auto, I can change the ss and apt to what ever I want. I will try that for a few dozen pictures. Any added light that would help glares on the glass. I can't add light from the top because the little farts jump out.

you might be able to shoot in shutter priority, with a speed that is fast enough to freeze their movement. that will end up under exposing the photo probably because the shutter is not open long enough to gather enough light..(but it is needed to freeze the action)

if the photo is under exposed, then the next option is to boost the EV.

as a last resort you could boost brightness in post processing.

the photos you have posted look pretty good.. the fish might be a little soft.. but not too bad..

Tonka, so far the shots look pretty good.

You might try making some sort of lens hood so that when you use the flash you don't get the reflection off the glass. I have a couple of rubber lens hoods for shooting up against glass.

Here is a shot I took at the San Diego Zoo through glass with a flash in the snake exhibit(which is very low light)

I was pressed up against the glass with the lens hood and used my shoe mounted flash with a diffuser.
