Warwagon,

Checkout this website for info on training shed dogs http://www.deersheddog.com/

I obtained his manual and believe it to be sound. In regard to training your lab to retrieve I suggest you check out some training info either on the internet or at the local library. I will get a Mountain Cur pup the last of this month. We intend to train the dog to hunt shed antlers.

You have got to get the Lab interested in pleasing you and interested in retrieving the antler. It is going to take time, patience and repetition. Some people teach a dog come, stay, sit, heel and kennel up. Don't give up.

The spring and summer will be good training time. If it was easy everyone would have a shed dog. I read your post and since nobody responded I thought I would let you know there are people going down the same path as you. Good Luck

warwagon86,

I found something that may help. Start reading at about the 6th paragraph down. Training a dog to retrieve

I still have some days before I get my pup. Let me know if any of this helps.

Warwagon86 & All You Other Shed Dog Folks,

Folks we are going to allow you to see a shed hunting machine second to none. I picked up my Mountain Cur pup last Friday afternoon. He is doing great. We named him Major.

Major is almost 7 weeks old. Right now he is getting settled in. If anyone who reads this post thinks dog can't find sheds, just check around the country. Many guys have their dogs bringing them shed antlers.

I will try to post a picture of Major - the Shed Dog. This is my first picture post, so hopefully I can get it done. WBPruett

Here is another picture. Proud little fellow. He has features like a Lab. Many Mountain Cur dogs are bob tail. Major was born that way.

When mature he will weigh between 45 and 50 pounds.

Thats one Cute Lil Pup... Hope He grows to be your Best Companion... I know my Dogs sure are. I been kicking around the idea of attempting to train them to shed Hunt as well. Im sure they would be better at it than I have been.

Congrats on the Lil pup...

Just a heads up for all you dog shedders, I took my springer out last weekend and she did go up to one shed and sniff it, then I picked it up. I need to work with her some more though. The next day she was crawling with ticks, more than I have ever seen before. I had to give her a bath in tick and flea shampoo, and I'm still pulling them off her. So far I bet I have removed 60 or more crawling on her, or attached to her. I hope that Lymes disease shot she got last fall is working!

I think I finally have them all off her, what a pain. The shampoo says it kills ticks, but it definately didn't kill them all. Just something to watch out for this time of year. I didn't find any on me?
