Last weekend will go down in history in my shed hunting life. I had 2 awesome shed finding experiences in two days! The second has a twist at the end!!

The First experience
<

I've always wanted a girlfriend who enjoys the outdoors as much as me. Well, I was lucky enough to find her about a year ago. She's never hunted or shed hunted before but was interested in trying.

I took her out a few times this year, and after finding her first few sheds she was hooked!! She started going out on her own and now she even uses the antler lingo, like "mass" G1, G2", "sticker" ect.

About a month ago she left for the summer to do field work for Ducks Unlimited. It's about a 5 hour drive from me so we talked on the phone a lot!! Everyday she would tell me about the sheds she finds while working and after work. By the sounds of she had a pretty good collection going.

I headed out to see her last weekend and when I arrived the first thing she did was show me her shed collection. Boy she had some nice ones!! One really big 4 pointer which was a few years old.

It's not very often that I'm the guided, I'm usually the guide, so when she told me she wanted to take me out to look for the other side to the big 4 point, I was pumped!

We looked for about 2 hours, found nothing but enjoyed the beautiful evening and eachothers company. We had just about made it back to the vehicle and I noticed a small bluff of trees with an open slough in the middle. I was getting a feeling so I sent her in and I walked the perimeter. She no sooner got out of site when all of a sudden I heard her yell...."YES!!!"...."WaHoo!!"

I ran over to her and she was kneeling beside the other side of the big 4 point she found a few days prior! She couldn't believe it! Her reaction and enthusiasim was extreemly genuine and I was extreemly proud and happy for her!

Here they are!!

When we got back to the field house that night, One of the other DU crew members found a real big, fresh antler that day as well. Apparently she was just Mountain biking and happend upon it.

The next day we went to see the shed and boy was it nice! It had 8 scorable points, good mass, split brow tine and extreemly dark! The girl who found it wasn't around at the time but her room mate showed us the shed and told us the general area she found it.

So off we went! We didn't know exactly where she found it so I didn't think we would have that good of a chance at finding the other 1/2. Just as expected we didn't find it but we did come out with about 12 other sheds in about 2 hours!! All in all was an awesome day!!

That night I talked with the girl who found it and apparently we were looking in the exact spot she found the big one. She was actually pretty excited about the shed and I told her that since she found the first 1/2 that, if I was to find the second 1/2 it was hers, to complete the set!!

The next day my girlfriend and the rest of the DU crew had to work but I didn't have to be back home til that evening. I headed back out to the same spot early in the morning before the long drive home. I searched for a few hours and picked up a few more older antlers but not the big match.

I decided it was time to give up and hit the road home. To save time on the long walk back to my vehicle I decided to cut through an open grassy area, one that we scoured pretty good the day before. About 20 yard into it I look over and there it was!!!! Lying in the wide open, just a few yards from where we walked the day before!! I took a few as it layed pics then picked it up and knew it was the match. I was pumped but I remembered that since I didn't find the first 1/2 this awesome shed didn't belong to me so it was a bit bitter-sweet.

Since all the crew members were out working I left the shed on the table with a note, saying "This is the other 1/2!!, you found the first one so this one's yours to keep". I then left it behind and headed for home. As a shedhunting/antler addict that was kinda tough to swallow but I stuck to the unwritten shedhunter's code of ethics.

Now here's the twist....... I talked to my girlfriend that night and she told me that the girl was very happy and thankful that I gave her the other half. The next day the girl came back and gave the antler back to my girlfriend ??? and told her that I could have it back. My girlfriend asked why and the girls said that no matter how hard she tried to match them up, the two antlers were from the same side!!!

Unbelievable!! These sheds are both fresh and mirror images of one another!! Both have 8 scorable points, split browtines that turn out, similar mass and point length and main beams that slightly curve downwards and found within a few hundred yards of one another!!

Both sheds are still down with my girlfriend and since it's a 5 hour drive I havn't been able to take comparrison photo's yet, but here's the one I found!

Note: I know this was a long post but thought it was an interesting story! Thanks for reading!

Great story and pics! I wish I could get my gal hooked, I think all it would take is one, but I haven't been able to put her on any yet.

I thought my shedding season had come to a close, but the new pics and stories seem to make the ticks, weeds and bugs bearable. Found a new spot, going to hit it Thurs afternoon, and Sat or Sun if it shows promise. Pretty green here though. Keep it coming!
