Hey all, I was out squirrel hunting the other day, and I heard a what I thought was a squirrel cutting a walnut. I scanned the tree tops, and you will never belive this. A fat fox squirrel, had a small antler in the tree top chewing on it. Now, after sitting there, and watching him. The only thing I could think of was maybe they eat the antlers because of all the calcium in them. After about 5 minutes of thinking, and watching him. I put the crosshairs of my 17hmr on his neck and blew his antler eating but to heaven. 1 less theif in my woods! lol

Rodents and ungulates will gnaw on shedded antlers for the minerals.

indeed, go to the North American Whitetail hall of Fame in Grass Lake, MI and look at the deer in their live pens, he's got piles of old antlers in the pens with all the deer that all look chewed on, I assume the only reason those antlers are there are for the deer to snack on.
