Different factors can determine on how long the sheds last. In some areas sheds will never be chewed on and will just weather away.

Sheds can last a lon time....or a short time?????? It tdepends on a few factors: 1. when they are dropped. 2. What the weather is like. 3. How many rodents in the area. 4. Where the are dropped. These factors all make a difference!

I have found shedds that are over 40 years old, still in great shape(just weathered)and found fresh shedds that have been chewed the day they drop.....So yes it all depends on what critters or if its a dry climate or wet one.....
No matter what-or where,its still a blast

Hey fossilman, just curious...how do you determine that a shed is over 40 years old?

I bought a collection from a rancher in Montana-he told be the year he found them.Had them stacked outside of his barn for over 39 to 42 years.
I think I bought 67 shedds or so from him.Whitetail, mule deer and elk.............I kept a Mule deer rack he shot in 1948,I did some sanding on it,stained it and it looks good as new, except for a few crack on it....
