Well I got out one last time the weekend of the 22nd. Here is what happened Saturday morning.
I started out the morning glassing from the Saddle of the hills just North West of Coyote Peak. Just after first light I spotted a Javelina coming out to feed. After a few minutes 2 more appeared. After determining they were working their way west, I slipped on my Sneaky Petes, left the backpack behind, and made a heading just west of them hoping they would come right to me and keeping the wind at my back. I made my way down the hill and the heard had already made it just past the area I was entering. With the wind blowing at my back now, they caught my scent and headed every which way. I pulled out my Javelina call and blew away. With in 5-10 seconds, I was staring at a large Jave now looking at me broadside no more then 10 yards away. Man he react to the call quicker then I thought . I drew the bow and he still stood there, I released, and he jumped my arrow. Off he went. I tried the call one more time, but no luck. I tracked him for aways, but he was on the alert and there was no way I was going to get close to any of them right now.
For my first year Javelina hunting, I will call this a success. I know where there are some animals now and best of all it is only an hour away from my house. So I can continue to scout this area and also check out some other areas that hold an interest to me.
