OK Ive decided  to do a hog hunt this May.Ive got the bow set up and tuned in.Arrows tuned and have been practicing with the cut on impact heads. Finally got it to about a 3 inch grouping at 30 yds.Over the past 25 yrs ive taken alot of whitetail. This is the first hog hunt i will be doing. My question is.....Where exactly is the best shot placement on a hog.I know behind the front shoulders. But being more specific......Where behind the shoulders, without chanceing hitting the shoulder plate.I prefer a broadside shot.

Hello Mossyhorns,

Here is a pic of a hog's vitals. There was a question by the guy who posted this pic on the Bowsite about how large the lungs are in this pic.

hog-vitals.jpg

Do not take frontal shots at wild pigs. On a broadside shot put the arrow just above the "elbow" of the front leg when the pig is dead broadside. Side shots are not recommended for large wild pigs. Rear quartering shots into the chest cavity are recommended for large-sized animals because this allows the arrow to slip behind the shoulder plaque. Shooting an arrow through the relatively thick skin and shoulder plaque of large wild pigs severely dulls the broadhead and may inhibit further penetration.

You have to lie down, and wait until the hog is about ten feet away. Then shoot him under the chin.  That should do the job.

Hey MossyHorn, I just got some videos from: http://www.doublebullarchery.com/storeblind.html
they have 3 videos with about 30 kill shots each tape (90 total kills) using archery on turkey, deer, hogs. These guys are extremely accurate with their arrows, I think you will enjoy them. The tapes were pretty cheap $5.00 each.
