Those of you that hunt in South Africa other than Kruger Park what are some good sightseeing side trips. I went to the Marakele NP last year. What are some other neat things to do?
I stongly suggest a 4-5 day visit to Kruger Park. I have set this up for the majority of my visiting hunters and they often talk about it as being the highlight of the whole experience. I use a private man who will take them in his combi ( VW buss) this way it's personal and private for then alone. It's not a big tour bus arrangement. This is something I do each year for a few weeks with my photo safaris and it's really a highlight of my time there.
I'm a bit selfish in this regard as I always push my hunters to do this before the hunt. I want their time change taken care of in the park before they arrive to hunt. I also like them getting their "game eyes" tuned before they arrive with me to hunt.
In my opinion this is a must do for a couple coming to hunt or even if your alone you should see the park. The massive heards of game and the animals you can see close up are extrodinary.
James has mentioned Pilanesberg. I am involved in a wilderness trails company operating in Pilanesberg. We do walking trails, usually 2 nights where we sleep out in the bush. No tents, no fences, no ablutions and in big five area. We walk during the day and look at all sorts of things from the grass to the elephant. We have had everything from lions to black rhino in camp at night and that can be a lot of fun. A great way to get acclimatized to the bush if you like "roughing it". It is a great park to visit.
Warren123 and James Vee I have been thinking about going to Pilansberg Game Reserve on my next trip. How far is it from Thabazimbi? I have heard good things about that area and it is high on my list. Thanks for the information.
