A few of us decided to go up and hunt hogs in the Paso Robles area. Lucky enough to have access to some private property up there. My brother and his daughter went up there over the weekend. On Saturday my niece whacked this nice boar with an AR rifle.

My friend and I showed up there on Monday afternoon and no more than a couple of hours of looking I find this tusker bedded. He must have been sleeping hard because he was only about 75 yards off a dirt road. We drove up to him, I stepped out of the truck, rested my 300 WSM on the truck's window opening and let a round fly. He jumped up from his bed ran up the hill about 30 yards and then rolled right back downhill, almost to the truck!

Back to camp to clean him up and enjoy some beers and campfire. Tuesday morning came quick and we were at it again. The morning wasn't too promising so we headed into town and grabbed some brunch. We decided to drive around the property and do some glassing. I found a group of pigs bedded under some trees across a canyon. It only about 400 yards as the crow flys, but it was a decent little hike to get over there. We stalked to about 50 yards from them and decided that my friend would shoot first since I already had a hog on ice. He let loose with his AR 6.8 SPC and then I put the throttle down on my boomstick. Two more hogs down and no easy way to get them to the truck. It was 2 pm when we shot them and about 4:30 pm by the time we got them both back to the truck.

Woke up yesterday with bit of a hangover and made the drive back home. It was a great few days and I can't wait for the butcher to call me and tell me that my chops and sausage are done!

Congrats to all! Ya sure had a great time and shooting! I especially like the tusk on that big tusker. Where I hunt I never see spotys nor red heads. I'm guessing there's a good feral population there?

Great piggies. The hills are finally green around here. Glad you had a fun hunt.

Thanks everyone!
Hogwild, yes it's nice to see everything green again. I don't think it will last for very long though. My kids start spring break next week so I may try to run up there for a few days while they are out of school. Maybe get a turkey and a pig.

Hahaha you lucky dog that thing ran up the hill just enough to build momentum rolling on the way back down to the truck huh?

Very cool man. I love seeing people using AR's for the hunt. Property looks beautiful.

Curiosity question...Did your buddies' daughter use a 5.56, and if so how did it do as far as damage? Wondering if I should use mine sometime.
