For example the Joice Island pig hunt requires sluged shot guns only.
SOOOOO what barrel would be best for say my 870 Express?
I'm going to order one next weekend but cant decide on either smooth bore with sights or the rifled tube with sights.

The gun shop guy recomended the sighted smooth bore what has a improved cylinder choke in it (20")/ Theory is the Improved cyl with tighted up a little giving the slug a little better stability.

I shoot the traditional rifled slug out of my 20 guage with an improved cylinder rem choke. It will group on a pie plate at 100 yards. If I was going to spend some money I would probally go with the rifled barrel. I just personly shoot that the barrel that I have.

The rilfed barrel will give the slug more stability. It also opens up the option of using a sabot slug.

The smooth bore will be cheaper but you will not be able to use sabots and accuracy with the fosters type slugs will probaly not be as great.

I would stick with the standard barrel on the 870, which I think is a Improved Cylinder choke. I been shooting rifled slugs out of Mossberg 590 which is a Cylinder choke. The accuracy is good under 75 yards and great under 50 yards. However, I think this might because I can't really see that well at 75+ yards, even with my glasses on.
What I have done is put a scope on my Mossburg 590 in hopes that it will really improve the accuracy of my shotgun with slugs (It better, I spent $140 on the scope and the scope mounts).
As pointed out, I think if you got a 20" rifled barrel, you could shoot sabots which can drop about anything at 200 yards. That would rule since you could shotgun only areas with a shotgun that is just as accurate a rifle and shoot just as far.

I'd go with the smooth barrel. If you lived in a state that didn't allow rifles for hunting then the cost of a rifled barrel might be worth it.
