I have a Lexar that I think I paid about $50 for. I don't think the price will affect the quality of the picture, because it's just reading and transferring a file. But, I think the difference is in how fast they are, how easy they are to use, and in the amount of problems you have with them. Mine has a USB connection which was fairly new and fast back when I got it, but now that's old technology. Talk to someone who has the one you're looking at and find out how well it works. I hear some are royal pains because they have poor software that doesn't work well with some computer op systems. Mine works pretty well. I think I had trouble getting the software working right back when I first got it, but then I put it on a new computer and it works way better.

I bought a Kodak one from Walmart about a year ago that reads Smartmedia, Compact Flash, and Memory Sticks all in one unit for $30. It is USB, fairly fast, and works like a charm. I have had zero problems with it. I would recommend it to anyone.
