I have gotten to the point where now I want a pig for my wall.  I'm going to King City next weekend and will be specifically looking for the bigun'.  Can any of you reccommend a good taxidermist to mount the head should I get lucky.  I'm in San Diego.  A local shop would be great but I don't mind driving too far.  I already called Lyons and O'haver.  I know they do great work but they want $675 for a boar head.  I have no problem with paying for quality but that's a bit much.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

SD,

If it were me, I'd drop it at a taxidermist up there.  There are a lot more of them up there (more competition should mean lower price) and there a lot of hogs taken up there so they should be experienced.  It's going to take a good while for the job to be done and when it's ready it will give you a reason to go up there and blast another one.

Regards,
Paul

Simons taxidermy in Commerce.  Simon is amoung the best of the best ANYWHERE.  His work looks like it will walk or swim away.  He won the champions invitational (think thats what it is called) with a 4 full mount elk display.  I have seen a lot of his work and it is outstanding.

2 years ago I had a pig done by Anderson taxidermy in Atascadero, wich is near Paso Robles on 101. It cost me $440 at the time. It also took awhile to get it done. It was well worth it and my WIFE said it is the best one she has ever seen. If you want I can get you the # or you can look at the back of CA curent big game applaction booklet.

I've got a friend here in Bakersfield that guides & he uses Jordans Taxidermy out in Taft. I've seen his work on bear, deer & goats & it looks great. Last I heard he charges 400-500 for a pig. His Web page is http://www.jordanstaxidermy.com & his phone is 661-763-3043, ask for Floyd.

If you live near Lakeside, try calling "Joe" at the Bow-n-Arrow shop. (619) 443-5488.  He use to do taxidermy in his own shop, until he purchased the bow shop about 18 months ago. I think he still does some work though. I've seen his work several times and he does a 1st rate job!

How long has it taken for you guys to get your mounts back?  By that, I mean a head and maybe neck (cape?).  I would like to mount my next pig.  I've only taken 1 and though it wasn't a trophy by any means, I wish I had mounted the head.  It was kind of special by virtue of being, not only my first pig but, big game animal as well.

I know that this may be a bit too late for your hunt, but I know a taxidermist in the King City area, his name is Dennis and he is very good and best of all, his prices are extremely reasonable.  I think I paid $250 to get my hog done and it came out GREAT!! It still oversees me when I am sitting on my desk typing on my computer....
If still want his info, please let me know and I will pass it on to you (I would have to dig his business card though)

1SoCal,

If you can find that info, send it to Jesse.  He can include it on his Taxidermists page.

1SoCal,

I got your email, and I'm assuming Jesse did too.

Back in the early 90's I shot a 27" wide 6x7 with my bow on the Kaibab, it scored 188 0/8.  Big buck by any standard.  I took it to the trophy room also.  Let's just say that I am embarrased to show anyone my mount (all my friends call him droopy or dumbo).  So I have plans to have a new cape put on it and have it redone by a shop up here in Arroyo Grande.

As a guide for pigs up here near Paso Robles, we end up taking our clients pigs to Don Anderson of Atascadero.  He does great work if you can afford it and don't mind waiting.
