Well, Monday am the birds weren't talking at all. Tuesday we had 5 goble on roost, but once on the ground they shut up. No birds.

We had a hen walk by, put-put-putting, locator calling.

I think things are early right now, hopefully it will start heating up soon.

We had 6 gobblers answering our locator call, Monday morning. The wind was so terrible, we had a heck of a time dialing in on 'em. The later it got, the worse the wind became. The only thing we saw was a coyote...

This morning, the wind was calm, but no gobbling at all. I figure they were henned-up. About 9:30am, a hen was heading straight for us. She bedded about 25 yards from us, in a small patch of woods. No gobbler following, though. About a half hour later, we saw 5 deer. That was the extent of any excitement... Turkey - 2 ~ Us - 0

<- This is how my turkey hunting has been going! I thought too things were early, but I don't see birds anywhere now. Had one gobble about 40 yds. away Tuesday.I don't know where he came from or where he went!I have never had a season quite like this.
Guess they ARE henned up,next week the 'ol Toms ought to be horny again for some new feathers to shake!

I ended 5 years of frustration and many missed opportunities saturday may 3rd with a 18lb 10 & 1/2 " beard , 1 & 1/4 " spurs gobbler at 11am in texas county .... They were really sounding off while in the roost but the one I zeroed in on at first light henned up really quick so I went to a ground blind I have and waited him out until he was done fooling with the hens. I got a good hour nap in between 830 and 930 and begin doing some calling and moving .... about 1030 he started responding and came in roaring....I dropped him at about 35 yards as he crested a ridge....My first bird in 5 years....Believe me I said a prayer of thanks because I didnt think I would ever get another

Just got back from north missouri and no luck. Birds gobbled good Saturday on the roost but flew down and went straight away from any kind of calling. Walked the property all day and seen nothing and no answer to calling. Sunday the storms moved in and was too nasty to go out untill late afternoon when season closed. We went for a walk and seen birds but gobblers and hens were not together at all and hadn't been all day from what we seen. This morning we thought it would be great, nice and calm after the previous stormy day but were sadly mistaken . We heard a few birds on the roost but to get to them we had to hike for a mile and a half since the creek was swollen and we couldn't cross as normal. Well we got to where the birds were gobbling and nothing just 5 hens all by themselves no gobblers to be found. Although turkeys weren't cooperating the mushrooms were popped everywhere, We filled 2 48 quart coolers and a 5 gallon bucket full.I'll post some pics of the shrooms tomorrow probably.

My 14 year old son and I have tagged out. Best hunt was May 3rd. We went to an area that hadn't been hunted (maybe for years). Turkeys are thin there, but... finally heard a gobble way down towards a creek - we moved several times in the early twilight before settling in (almost bumped the birds). Had two decoys out at 20 feet (too close but we were too close to go farther) Called the bird along with his buddy like they were on a string. Two longbeards passed BETWEEN us and the decoys gobbling. One has a ratty tailfan so the kid keeps switching which bird he wants. Boss bird knocks over the jake decoy. Guns still in our laps. Tell the boy to raise and shoot. He does but MISSES! I kill one, then he connects on the other. Both are old birds with 1 1/4 inch beards. Biggest has a 11.5 inch beard.

We doubled on a pair of gobblers last spring also. Great to be out with the son!

Well I just don't have a clue about this past turkey season. Sunday morning had 4 talking on roost, shut up on the ground, no birds for me this year. While leaving, about 2 miles from my hunting ground, saw a nice tom chasing a hen thru a corn field, with 2 jakes behind him. The hen was a runnin'! About 50 yds in front of them.

Anyway, time to go fishing!

Had 2 gobblers right on top of me,called them all the way down a ridge, heard another hunter (tresspassing) slip in and try to call them away from me,it didnt work so he must have tried to stalk them and ended up running them off, ruined my season so i bombed out.
