Cant go this year but next year it is on for Archery in Colorado. Had a buddy get a nice bull last season. Having one of those suckers 15 yards out what a rush. I would need some new shorts.
I hunted 211 looking for elk, unfortunately they don't show up there til a out 4th rifle season. My uncle killed a buck there in 2004. Duffy Mountain is a good spot, plentyof access, lots of water from the Yampa River. Good cover and feed too. Only problem is lots of hunters. Saw lots of Antelope there too.
Trying to decide which unit in Colorado to hunt elk in this fall, GMU 2 or GMU 201 for Muzzleloading bull tag. My chances of drawing are 1 in 3 with 22 Pref Points (Non-Res). Looking for any info on the units relative to water, wallows, number of animals, number of hunters, cover, access, etc. Need to apply before 4-2-2013. Email me at jmstrampe@aol.com.
still moving forward with my planning for this hunt, One thing that really messed up with my long distance scouting last year is that when I got to the actual areas i had planned on hunting there were many more roads on the ground than on the maps. Is this true with colorado also in the BLM areas?
Sorry, but I can't support CO since their Governor signed the restrictive gun legislation today, that criminalizes law abiding CO citizens, and will do little to limit gun crimes.
The Columbine shooting took place during the last Assault Weapon Ban, and the Aurora shooter should have been on someone's radar before he pulled off his monsterous act.
Yes my partner and I will be up there for 3rd season rifle elk/deer. Already have one pre trip planned for july. We got skunked last year for bull elk/buck. 7 days straight living out of our packs and can't wait to do it again.
We've already upgraded the packs and new sleeping bags. Got a couple more gear upgrades (cutting weight, nikon ED spot scope) and we'll be ready gear wise. Started the training regiment in feb. If there's one thing I learned that I need to increase training on, legs, legs, legs!!!
Im going with my son and a friend where hunting over the counter archery Either sex Elk and Antlerless Sep.7 we will be hunting around Craig.
The great thing about over the counter tags you can start planing now.
I am planning on hunting in GMU 22 for archery elk in 2013. I have hunted near Piance Creek before. I am looking for other option in addition to what I know. open to public land or treaspass fee access. plan to camp but cabin rental near by could be nice. any helpful info would be appreciated.
last year OTC idaho. this year OTC colorado elk? it appears the entire state is open to archers? man, why would anyone opt to draw a tag? rifle hunters?
my planning is at it's infancy. gotta hurry. my brother is calling his denver elk hunting buddy.
this trip (idaho or colorado) plus some amarrillo texas, spot stalk mulie hunt should do me just fine.
Nice man. Pretty much the whole western half of the state is open to archers, OTC. Colorado is great. I wanted to draw a rifle cow tag for better chances of meat in the freezer. But next year I'm gonna try my hand at archery elk in Colorado. I'm an excellent archer, just never did much bowhunting. Next year for sure though!
