Awesome!!!! Awesome!!!!...........and in San Diego too!!!!! All we need is some more years of wet weather and the green grass and abundant seeps and springs should help the Tejon hogs run across the highway and take root in the Angeles National Forest and the Deep Creek/Silverwood Lake hogs and the San Timoteo Canyon hogs and the San Diego hogs take root and expand.............Probably, the only thing holding back the hog population in these areas from taking root and expanding is the lack of springs, seeps and creeks. These areas are bone dry on a normal dry season, except for stock troughs and ponds on private property. So....are the San Diego hogs up to Julian yet???? What say you???

We understand its private property and all, and we're not interested in exactly where its at. But WHICH part of SD county is it in? We're just trying to see how far they've spread. Can you give us +/- 10 miles?

Those of us in SD county are intensly interested. Just last year, we were told that there wasn't a viable or huntable population of hogs in the county. Recently, we've been getting little clues here and there that its not true.

Case in point, the gentleman above. We've got an idea where hogs have been reported, I'm just trying figure if this place is inside or outside that area. Primarily we get reports around El capitan and lake cuyamaca. If this hog was taken, say..further north around Julian, that would indicate the hogs are spreading fast.

I won't take your locker combo, I'd go for the whole locker

Yup!!! I remember just last year that people were convinced that there were no huntable hog population in San Diego county..............but now the hog population is already there and it is spreading fast. Hopefully people will not be shooting wet sows.

The huge herd of wild boars in Tejon Ranch started only from an escaped population from the nearby wild boar high fenced hunting ranch that had it's barbed wire fence bulldozed by the Fire Department for access during a brush fire..........that was only around 15???? years ago. At first the Tejon Ranch even tried to eradicate the wild boars, because at first they looked at it as a pest. Now we have thousands of wild boar roaming free ranging in Tejon. If the wet sows don't get slaughtered..............the San Diego population could expand.

That's true. The Tejon herd went untouched for several years before they started hunting them though. Our San Diego hogs are already running the gantlet. It's only a matter of time until they make it onto private land holding where hunting isn't allowed, then they'll be here for good....at least I hope so!

They've made good progress in a years time! It won't be long before they hit that southern tip of the CNF north of Ramona and spread from there.

from reports i have heard from USFS LE and DFG resources there are patches of pigs throughout all of SoCal....u just have to research it, talk to people in the correct places, hit the dirt and knock on some doors. I hope they spread qicker, im a meat hunter and these pigs are reducing my grocery bill ALOT! I only shoot what i need to eat...not for sport....

Riverside County is not very hunter friendly....unlike SB county...u cant hunt on most of the Riv county land. I think all the pigs are going to thrive there and spread out....from what the DFG says the problems with pigs are increasing in Riv county and DFG will not do anything about it. DFG keeps telling them to let hunters at it. Its gonna happen sooner or later and if we get more wet winters like this, ITS GONNA B ON! Cant wait till they are thick in the SBNF, in my back yard!

I guess the real limiting factor in hog population expansion is water availability.........because the Tejon ranch tried eradicating the invading hog escapees from the neighboring High Fenced hog ranch.............but as we all know, all efforts at eradication by the Tejon Ranch failed. Now, there are thousands of established free ranging wild boar in the Tejon Ranch. I looked at the map of Ramona.......and there is the nearby Sutherland Lake and a little bit up north is the Lake Henshaw and a few miles to the south are the San Vicente Reservoir and the El Capitan Reservoir. I believe this 4 lakes will anchor the expanding San Diego hog population. Plus the stock watering troughs and ponds in the private horse ranches will help the hog population expand. It won't be long before the hillside and horse ranch residentials will be complaining of hogs rooting up their lawns and gardens and shrubbery. I have been on those San Diego County backroads and the greenery seems to be hog friendly.
Yup!!!! Won't be long and those hogs will be in the thousands. With horse ranches watering troughs...........the hogs might yet make the jump to Temecula.......but that is a very long stretch of the imagination.

If the rifle guys leave them alone and we keep getting some more wet years like we did this year then yup its on. Until then I know people that are wacking them with rifles right now and just pushing them around. Give them a chance people and some time.
