I really don't see what the big deal is over the calling contest. If you think you can call ducks, sign up and give it a whirl. if you need a grandstand with thousands watching it ain't gonna happen this year.

Next year it will but please tell me what's so dirty about a calling contest with a few callers and a couple judges? Please someone spill the beans. It's like walking on eggs, what is everyone afriad of? We can make it for a pair of waders for christ sake if you're worried about losing big money.

If you don't want to play then let the others have their chance and quit knocking the fact there is no big name here or grand prize of money.
<
I've spent a lot of time recruiting people for it and if some don't want to call in it fine. IT was on the flyer also and would be a disappointment if someone shows up just for that and we have dropped the calling contest. Please move aside and quit making excuses why it won't work in your opinion.

All we need is at least 2 callers and 2 judges for a start. We're not Stuttgart,,,, yet. The ORGANIZATION is also simple. You get the sign up sheet, call the fist name and say go. Same guy times the calling with a stopwatch. End of 2 minutes you say Whoa!. Next etc etc. They used to do it down at the hardware store for turkey season in MO and it was the best part of the sales day they had for turkey season. Everyone stopped and walked over to hear the calling.

Just KISS, you're making it way too complicated.

We've already lost the dog launch contest so what else will we be chopping out for the naysayers?

I think the big deal over the calling contest is your calling it a calling contest. I don't know anything about contest calling but I do know some guy's take it very seriously. When you say there will be a calling contest guy's are expecting something with some guidelines and rules like a state calling championship. I am by no means a veteran caller ,but I do practice alot and think it would be fun to get together with some guy's and see what we can throw together in front of a bunch of on lookers. When were done it would fun to brake off in pairs with guy's who have questions or want to improve their calling,a one on one would help.I hope to make it out so I can be the first one to blow my call so you guy's get a good laugh!!!
<
If I do make it I will be helping out ANDY (aka AGC73) at the TAYLOR TALKER BOOTH. Hope to see lot's of you there.

But as long as we have people that are willing to, let’s do it. We should have sign up list and if we have enough people sign up for it. We will still have it, but if there is only 2 or 3? I don't know. You guys tell me.

So if your planning on being a caller posted up. or email me so we know.
I still fill if some way, as long as we have someone willing to blow

If the serious guys don't wanna enter they don't have to. We're not portraying this as a big money contest or a sanctioned event so why all the heat rash over it?

The rules are simple. Your name is called and you've got 2 minutes to do your best calling. Judges vote and a winner is declared.

Like I said before, what's the hang up? Enter if you want, if you don't like the rules or set up then check back next year at the Waterfowl Day once we have time to do it better for the "Serious" guys.

Crap! I was almost finished typing this and the power went out.

Anyway, Robert and I will be there because we don't want to disappoint anyone by not following through. Sorry if I hate doing things half assed, it's do it right or not at all with me most of the time.

Since I have not seen a schedule of events then I am setting the time for the calling contest. If it conflicts with another event...........then it just does.

There will be 3 groups, Advanced, Intermediate, & Amateur. Since we have no idea how many people will sign up to compete then I have no idea how long each group will take so everyone that plans on competing will need to be there at the start so they can hear the criteria in which we will be judging them on.

The duck calling will start at 12:00 and the goose calling will start at 1:00. The amateur group will start first followed by the intermediate group then the advanced group. If any of the three groups only have 1 or 2 competitors then that group will get bumped to the next appropriate group....whichever makes the most sense at the time. I don't think that we should have one single group since it might deter some of the less talented callers from competing knowing they would be competing against advanced callers. We want as many people that want to participate to participate.

This will be more of a Meat Calling contest which tends to simulate what a hunter would do in a hunting situation that requires a lot of calling. There will not be an emphasis on ringing high balls that you would see in a regular duck calling contest. If that's what someone chooses to do then go ahead and blow your lungs out but it won't earn you any bonus points. I think people would rather watch people sound like a duck.

The duck calling will consist of a scenario such as: You see a group of ducks 500 yards out, you start calling them and they get closer, they start working your spread, they break away and start heading out, you call them back, they start to land outside of shooting range, you call them in closer, lay them down and your done. This will be the same scenario used for the goose calling. Callers will have 90 seconds max to run their routine.

Jesse, if this is too structured for you then you can find someone else to judge. I'm not going judge some kid making single quacks to a 20 year veteran.

We will manage with 2 judges if need be but we could sure use someone to run a red light or a stop watch so the callers will know when their time is up. I will figure out some way for us to not be seen so we can focus on the calling and not see who is doing the calling. We will issue each caller a number, not necessarily in the order they have signed up. It needs to be as random as possible so that there is no bias. When their number is called they will have 30 seconds to warm up and then the clock starts ticking.

If this is satisfactory to y'all then count us in. If not then have a nice time.

I don't know what you plan on doing with the Widgeonwhacker lanyards but I think they would be the perfect prize for the winners if you decide to give something away for this.

That's perfect Matt, I was just getting tired of the "We can't", " it won't work" stuff we've heard for years now.

It's just for fun, remember?

The guys that want to can get serious next year.

We're going to be short some gear that I said we would have.

JJ Lares didn't come through with our order after saying they were shipping Monday.

The MOJO spinners didn't make it in time either. I know, we'll break some hearts with that news. You would have been able to point out the evil things to the kids at least. The canes on the gulf coast have slowed down shipments from there.

Iverson never returned calls for our orders there. The son is MIA as best I can tell.

Silosocks won't be here in time. If someone has any bring them to show off.

Our Dogtra order won't be in time.

Tritronics never returned our calls for our first order and literature so we have nothing but prices sheets for them. If someone has E-collars and electronics they want to help us demo that would be great.

Basin Abomination Calls never could decide it he wanted to sell to dealers so we won't have any to sell.

We'll still have Primos, Lohman, Wing Lock, H.S. Strut and Big River , upland, duck and goose calls. Also some how to DVDs and VHS tapes on duck calling and waterfowl hunting.

The new Mad Dog Titanium waders didn't make it in time but we'll have the other styles there. Mad Dog bought out Hodgeman so we can get their waders, gear and boots now too.

The Nitro Goose/ducks loads won't make it in time. This is the spendy Hevi-Shot loads that Nitro Ray from MO makes for the turkey and waterfowl crowd. It's the cadillac of loads for big birds. Bout $2.50 a shell but it's the shizzle for geese. I'll try and bring some of mine so you can pattern some. Just make sure your chinstrap in cinched down real tight when you light the fuse on one of these.

What time is the dealer Sat BBQ set for? I'll be there probably late like 5pm to start setting up. Westy (Rick) will be dropping off the trailer with our two quads earlier Sat morning. Just put the trailer out of the way if you can Mike until I can get there to place the ATVs.

See y'all Satruday and Sunday. Stop by the booth and tell us your forum name for a free t-shirt or hat and pin.

We'll have margaritas flowing. Non alcoholic of course.
