Jesse,
Let me clear some things up, I told you that Troy was going to make it out, but he couldn't make it, there were some serious family issues going on....Enough said.

I also told you that I would give a waterfowl seminar before I ever said that Troy might be coming out. I did tell Outdoor Play that put alot of this on, that I would do a waterfowl seminar, he called me at home wanting times, and I said that it didn't matter to me, just tell me when you want me, I had the topic to talk about and the advice to give. As Matt stated: Myself, Matt, and Robert helped out alot of people there and gave alot of good advice to those that came buy the boothe. I couldn't ask for two better guys to represent the calls with me. I once saw Matt helping out a young kid blow a short reed goose call, and got him making some notes out of it. Next year Troy Taylor and myself will be there.

As far as the calling contets goes,
It takes more than two judges that are volunteers & putting Pro/Amature on a flyer. Guys that blow in calling contest aren't going to do it for free or for a pair of waders, even on a local event. You have no idea how much time and practice it takes to get to that level. Next year, I'll make some phone calls and talk to Outdoor Play (Mike) to see what I can do. To get real judges, and guys interested in this, it takes money, and it takes money to enter in the contest, and judges need to be payed as well, and it's in the neighborhood of $200.00 for the day.

As a whole it was fun to meet to everyone, Brandon, I'm glad we got to talk in person and meet, let's get together and hunt this year
<
To make this work and get people to show up, you got look at the positive things.

Guys, I apologize if I came off too strong. My point was we had some folks who really didn't think it would work and that vibe does get out there.

I want to thank you guys for helping the people with their calling. I mean it.

I'll stop with the negative vibes.

Maybe we can put a call in bulldogs hands and get him into this too.  I can hear his girlfriend now: "Damn you, Jesse!"[/b]

Yeah! Right JD... my best calling goes like this "quuuaaaaaack. quack, quack, go Los Angeles Mighty Ducks of Anaheim!!!!"
<
<
<

Like you said with my girlfriend... if I start doing waterfowl calls... I know for sure my mating calls will suffer!
<

And what would an Upland guy know about calling? Luckily for me that ESS and Arise stepped up and willing to take me along on my first waterfowl hunt...

I had a great time at the show. It was great to get out and see some of the guys and some guys that I hadn't met yet. Andy it was good to finally meet you and yes we'll put something together this year and maybe hit Mendota a time or two, and thanks for the tips that you gave me. Matt it was good talking with you and I'll keep working on that MouthCallin, thanks for the encouragement. I also met d'trees "Derek", that duck that you brought was awesome, thanks. I also got to talk with Rob and Xavier and it seems like everyone was itching for the season to get here. When I got there Robert was puttin a hurtin on the Honker call as he was teaching someone the how too's. Great event see ya guys soon.

All of you that were in contact with the stoners, I apologize for inviting them. We had a talk before the event and I asked them to be civil.
I’ve been trying for the past few years to get them involved in the outdoors, instead of things that get young men in trouble… They didn’t have a hunting influence growing up. I tried to get them on a better path but failed them miserably and failed my JHO brethren at the same time.
If anyone took a financial loss due to the stoners, I will make good on whatever they may have cost you…. I know a few of you are less a couple six-packs so please post up or e-mail me so I can have some peace of mind.

I’m sorry that I tried to be a positive influence on these boys… I’m probably not the best mentor in the world, but… I did try.

Jesse, Xavier, Zach, ODP, Darius, Wingman, Bulldog, CAwaterfowl etc.... what a great event. My son couldn't stop talkin about how much fun he had. Bulldog, thanks for the extra dose of patience to let the kids finish out the shoot. Mapman and David - we'll shoot with ya anytime (and shush up about a new shotgun for Brady).

The one disappointing part for me was once again not getting the time to meet everyone who showed up.

I updated my signature... Those of you who know me will, I’m confident, be sure to have this as my epitaph;
"O Muse!
Sing in me, and through me tell the story
of that man skilled in all ways of contending,
a wanderer, harried for years on end."

AMEN JDC!!

You can not pick the crowd that goes to a state fair or a church revival- how can anyone not have the same freedoms to attend a "Sportsmen" fair? The fisrt time I went to church- I was drunk or stoned or something. But the people made such an impression on ME "myself" - for who I was at that time- alone that the next time I went- Son of a gun if I was not only clean/sober- but more than anxious to see and learn how they were able to ATTAIN this "lifestyle" I carved for myself. At that time before I came to a FULL "Undersanding" of it and what it entailed- I thought it was just a club- and not a Life. Boy was I wrong and only have the grace of God and those that showed me the truth by investing in me when I was not worth anything to anyone else.

There are SO many quoates in this thread of - "people/reps that did not come through from someone. Yadda Yadda...... "

You know what? This was JUST the first year~! Rome was not built in a day-- Prom's start at the Frosh level fisrt before they turn into the Senior Ball. And yes- eventually they end- that it- NO MORE! the lesson is this!

ENJOY THE RIDE FOR ALL IT IS WORTH- AND WHEN YOU SLIDE INTO HOME PLATE SAY-

"DAYUM THAT WAS FUN" !!!
<

Spitterz-

It is not your fault that they never had a dad like you. Carry on Bro with your head high, Trevor in tow and geep bringing those that have never been exposed to feeling "THE poetry ! The one that cuts to the marrow of your/our souls- and into theirs that have the potential marrow to cerate new blood cells of life- not matter color, creed or opportunities"

(an early morning after work Coors Light moment.
<
<
<
)

Bulldog-

I know you way overdid yourself again from the giving heart you have given and offered more to just me alone. I also know you came up WAY short of $$$$'s out of your own pocket. Please let us help. The first step is just considering it- please be proud in your accomplishments for this event and everyone that knows you personally. And please let us help you in recouping you expenses.

Much Love to you both- and EVERY JHO Brother or person I ever meet in the field.

Always Yours,

I had a great time on Sunday. The only negative for me was that I had to leave by one to get to a birthday party.

Duke, Brady, Mapman, and David. Thanks for helping Dillon at the CWA table. His “painted” duck is prominently displayed on his dresser. Duke, it was nice to talk instead of waving at each other on the way to work. Mapman, thanks for letting me see that 20ga. I think its twin may soon have a place in my safe.

ODP, I introduced myself to you and Chad on the field and I again want to say thanks for all of the work you put into getting this show going.

Pit dog, as a teacher I can tell you that the work your doing with the stoners will take time to bear fruit. Keep working with them and you may be surprised with what happens!

Karsitc, Thanks for letting Dillon play with Ely. He had a great time and he worked that call we got from you all the way home. A fly fishing trip is in our future.

X, I’m glad I finally got a chance to meet you face to face. Next time I’m at the Employee store I’ll look you up.

Jesse, you were more than generous to me for the small amount of work I did for you!!! Thanks for putting up with my five year old; you made a big impression on him. The first thing he did when he got home was to show the pin you gave him to his mother and proudly state that he had met Jesse from Jesse’s hunting page. Thank you for setting up this show and more importantly thank you for having this web site and starting this community of friends and fellow hunters.

I’m totally amazed with the way this show turned out with so little lead time to get it going. Were there things that needed to be improved on? Certainly. I’d like to see name tags for JHO members so I know who I need to introduce myself to, more dog work, and more vendors, more people ECT. We need to have those types of dreams and goals but we need to realize that Rome was not built in a day and the party at the Pink did not start off like the one this September. The thing to remember is that everyone, with the possible exception of the Dogtra rep., had fun. Kids were excited about waterfowl hunting and calling. Many of you got to see some Kids out shoot their Dads. What better way to spend a day?? And to start something that may grow beyond our biggest dreams!!

I have never hunted waterfowl. I have never had the opportunity nor a mentor to show me how. After this show I now have the itch and you can be sure I’ll search this forum for information because the type of people that I encountered at this show and in this forum are the type of people I want as my mentors.

Brown Trout,

Nice meeting you to....

No problem. They usually shoot better than mine did on Saturday!
<
I really like the feel of it and it is very light weight which is a plus when hiking and carrying it in the field all day, and the ammo is lighter than the 12 ga shells as well. It all adds up, especially after a long day......

That is true.....my son is still smack talkin me about it!

I am glad your son enjoyed the Kids Booth. Kids are like a sponge and giving them just a little of our time, and something as simple as a piece of wood cut out as a duck, some pictures to reference, and some colored markers, and we can inspire them. They are so eager to learn. Glad we could help out and make an impression on him.....I hope he grows up to become a hunter and a fisherman, and shares many a great day with you in the field.

See ya next year!

OK you guys finely got me worked up.
<

So can we move on for this?
<

I can't believe that two nobodies show up and make butt heads out of them self’s (MIND YOU “THEM SELF’S”) and you guys have to shine the spot light on them more then you have shined the light on the show it self.
<

I will have you know it happened at the end of the day it was after 4pm and next to no one was there any more, so let get off of this.
<

Sorry but after reading the whole thing and I had time to think about it really PO me.
<
I am happy this is what every one will remember, not the show, not the kids activities, not the shooting activities, no there going to remember the stoners, thanks guys
<
I am so happy that a few of us worked our BUTTS off to get this done.
<
<

So you can set on your butts in your comfy chair and slam it because you think it’s funny or amusing.
<

I would only hope as men we could drop this and shine the light on the good things that we saw, the funny things that we saw and how about telling us about the one thing that you learned that you can take out in the field and shoot some ducks with, something but not this.

I bought a really nice Spec call from Andy and he taught me how to use it in no time at all.
<

I have some decoys that the kids painted and did an outstanding job on and I wish I knew who did the art so I can give them the decoy.

It was great to meet Map Man (David) and his son (the ringer), Brown Trout, and so many more.

A great bunch of folks for sure

Pit,

I am pretty sure that Duke's son Brady painted the decoy's all by himself, and was excited to do it. I think the only reason he did not finish all of them was because the paint brush bristles hardened up in the heat. What do you clean up that kind of paint with...........I know water did not work!
