I got some decent footage this weekend and threw together this 1 minute clip. You'll need Windows Media Player or the Flip4Mac plugin for playing it on the Mac. It might take a minute or two to buffer so be patient.

Footage of a Running Elk

This one will wet your appetite...I was in bow range of this bull a few times.

I also filmed a book bull real up close and personal and will take some time to polish it up...got to practice my archery stalking skills. Will post it in the coming days.

Nice work Bill. Great camera. Great music. Love it.

Dang, I'm starting to get pumped for Sept. Time to go shoot 18 arrows, go for my 90 minute walk, and followed by 30 minutes of swimming. Trying to get in shape so I can go chase those awesome critters.

Let's see...
*Camera Body: Canon XL1-S
*Lens: 16x 5.5 - 88 mm lens; stabilization on, ND Filter off - I was under 50 yards on much of the footage and less than 16x...maybe 4x
*NO Tripod believe it or not - I have the shoulder mount and "lock" my elbows in. I try to use a tree or rock...I end up having to edit out a few "bumps" but I'm more mobile this way. I do use a Manfrotto sometimes.
*Workflow: Sony capture program, Vegas 6.0 - I use this for quick and dirty work--there's no color correction nor high end capture card like the Grass Valley groups' Aja line of cards which enables a 10 bit YUV 4:2:2 capture. I rendered the edited version into an almost lossless avi format. I then imported it into Sorenson Squeeze (I am currently in charge of the QA department there), created a wmv file that streams about twice the datarate that of youtube's flv files. Youtube does use our Sorenson Spark codec for all their compression. They are switching over to H.264 real soon rumor has it...I'd probably stream it to you at twice the quality for the same datarate if I built another website geared for it....probably coming soon.

There you have it...gobbledegook and all...

Basically, I am evolving it and growing my library...working on graphics/audio for my branding etc...it's still all pretty rough right now. Plan is to roll out a commercial waterfowl video in 2008. I am deferring big game for now. The commercially available stuff will be much, much more polished.

That footage was taken a 4-5 hrs from my house up in Wyoming.

I have some elk get to within a half mile or so of my house and I have deer in the park in front of my house once in a while. There are some tremendous bucks & bulls less than an hour in pretty much almost any direction from my house...there are some super areas within a couple hours.

I plan on getting more elk & deer footage...too little time.

Awesome Bill. You would have done Valle Caldera Justice. With your skills you could have made me look thin on film!

Looks like he's growing one tine the wrong way on the right, should be interesting when it's all done.
