I went shedd huntin' yesterday and found a spot where all the deer go,when they flee.....
I little island just north of town here......I crossed the ice to get a look around a found many deer there(still carrying antler's)..
Something caught my eye,a tine from a dead buck.....He was froze to the ground and no tool's to dig him out.
I found a shoulder bone and started digging him out.Coyotes did a good job on him.
So it didn't take long,I cut his horn's off and they are now hanging in my shed....
I did get some pic's before I cut him up.....Still film on the roll though,so will be awhile for a post.
He was a 17 inch spread,nice rack(all even tine's)both sides match.....(.4x4)
I can't believe people give up that easy to find a downed deer....The creek was froze during hunting season this last time too,so no excuse there.....He had to have had a blood trail of some kind.......
Oh well,I got him now.

Two years ago,I found a 5x7 up there in the same area(whitetail)with a arrow in his guts..just the skeleton left, but was neat to find...Of course I have him and the arrow in my shed too...

that sucks to find them dead like that, found a 9 point last year, was a nice little 2.5 year old buck, I couldn't tell what killed him, he was too far gone.. congrats on the find, at least the tree rats won't get him!

Too many hunters if they don't see them go down believe they missed.
Good to see you found the rack and gave the deer some kind of justice.I find alot of dead buck every year in my shed hunting areas.I think alot of them though are roadkills that ran off to die.
Some though I believe were shot but hunters tresspassing that figured they come back at a later date to retreave the rack.

Fossilman, what makes you think the deer was shot? The 'yotes may taken him under a weakened condition, or he could have died of injuries from a fight.

Did you find evidence of a bullet or broadhead wound?

Just wondering why you thought someone gave up trailing him.
