Summary of my morning hunt:
- Get up early and drive to ranch
- Get to ranch at 6:45. Put on boots, drain excess coffee.
- Walk 150 yards to end of lake. Say to self: "Self, sure looks like a lot of fresh rooting around here"
- Observe boar rooting in valley 150 yards out. Aim and pull trigger.
- Recall that guns usually are more effective when safety is off.
- Move safety to off, aim again, and shoot boar.
- Wonder what to do for rest of day.

Took all of 10 minutes! A nice 150 lb boar that's now at Bud's in Penngrove and will come back as sausage and pepperoni sticks.

Tons of rooting over the last couple of weeks so it looks like the season is starting big time. See video link for what I caught on one game cam. Turn up the volume and you'll hear them talking to each other.

That's how it is... Sometimes I'll head out on a buddies ranch and with in a few minutes we spot some, and other times we walk for miles, over very fresh sign everywhere, and never find them.
We either see a bunch or none...

They're busy down here too. Must have seen 25 or more big ones in the last couple of days. Got into gun range at last light but couldn't ID the boars. Oh well....

Too easy? LOL. You are lucky to be on a ranch. Most people hunt for years on public lands without getting a shot off. Your video and story reminds me of the hunting shows on tv. People bait and set up cameras to know the movements of the pigs and then sit in blinds to shoot. It's almost like shooting in your pen. That kind of hunting on tv is not hunting at all, in my opinion. But anyhow, congrats on your great pig.

I'd be happy to post every time I've gone out and pounded rubber without as much as seeing a hog, but I doubt that would be very interesting. I could also stop putting up videos of hogs if it aggravates people, or put cameras up where the pigs aren't rather than where they are. I kind of like seeing them out of curiosity, and think others do. Only "bait" at the video spot was a couple duck carcasses I threw there over a month ago that were long gone, besides that it's just acorns from the trees around. The hog I got was 1/2 mile away from any camera and I don't have any blinds. Yeah, I'm lucky to be able to hunt private land, sorry it that's a problem. I got lucky last week and had an easy hunt, sorry if that's not "hunting".

I hunted Liggett for years before I ever got close enough to a pig to shoot it. But the one time it did happen, I hadn't been out of the car for more than 30 minutes and killed him right in the middle of a dirt road about 1/4 mile from the truck. My story would read almost the same as yours.

Yeah - sometimes it is too easy and it's over before it starts....... but I've found that it is usually more than paid for in advance with all the unsuccessful trips that preceded the good one.

Nice pig, and thanks for sharing.

I, like you, usually post when all works like planned. As for the hog being at BUDS? Matt will make that hog into a culinary delight- he is solid as a butcher for sure.
