I'm not sure when I'll get up there Sunday. A buddy is coming by to ride up too. Plus my son has basketball pics at 1:30. We'll see.

My friend got a pig there last year. We went back to the area a couple of hours later and the gut pile from his pig was gone. Completely. We did flush some buzzards out of the trees when we got there but dang, that was quickest I've ever seen a gut pile disappear.

We should shoot for a JHO weekend at Liberty Glen or, if we can scam somebody into a boat shuttle, Logger's Camp.

dk,

you would go to the visitors center, sign up and they give you a "pass." you go and hunt...when you go back the next time all you have to do is fill our their hunting log book with your info and let them know how long you will be hunting, then go hunt...you don't have to wait for the visitors center to be open (atleast this is how i understand it)

no. you go to the visitor center. have your hunting license and pig tag ready. + your driver's license. they take it, and make a photo copy. they give you a sticker for your boat (i dont have a boat), and a tag you hang from your rear view mirror. each hunter needs this tag. if you are carpooling, you need to have everyone's tag within eye-view. same with the boat tag. i will keep mine if i ever ride in someone's boat.

on the day of the hunt, assuming you go in the wee hours, the office is closed..right? they have a book of sign in sheets. about the size of an index card. you put your name, your hunter's number (on your mirror card tag), drop it into a mail box tip thing, and go into the woods.

not sure about, IF you kill a pig. i havent yet..but i think the pig take log is voluntary.

the orientation is simple. they hand you a map. tell the days you cannot hunt, and show you a boundary tag...takes a few minutes.

I have never bow hunted but i bought a bow last year incase the i got the chance. Also, i have never hunted public land. Any advice on some areas up that i should stick around? I have a boat but i am going to stick to the trials by foot my first couple time i go up.

hey D.E.S.. Liberty Glen campsite has some nice trails off it to hunt, alot of sign there. i use the google earth maps to pre scout Lake Sonoma trails to hunt, they are very detailed. and there are a handfull of other jho members who hunt there and know it pretty good that maybe you can hook up with to hunt with during the season.
i am going to shoot up there in the morning to register and do some prescouting with the bino's. good luck and and i will chat with ya soon...........tra

200 isn't that many. I was talking to a park ranger up at lake sonoma this morning and he said that last year they had 900 hunters registered by the beggining of February (for the shotgun hunt). And he said there isn't nearly as many hunters this year. Which is good for us guys who did register!!!

i plan to do only weekday hunts (wed.-thur.-fridays) to avoid the weekend warriors, but if anyone wants to hook up for a hunt up there just let me know 2 or 3 weeks in advance and i can scheduale it off. my scheduals at work are posted for 3 weeks in advance already so whan i have to request time off i need a heads up ahead of time........tra
