Tommy's going elk hunting, Bishop JR antlerless next weekend. After we get back, I'm off to ID, 66A, 76 bull and two buck tags. Might not be back to work after Friday till November. Hate me, but wish Tommy good luck on his first elk hunt......

Were back, We had a good chase, and he took one Saturday afternoon. Just wish we could have communicated with the other hunter chasing the same herd. We were waiting behind some trees about 400 yards from a herd, and they drove by and spooked the herd. We took off on foot and caught them again. Tommy could have taken a 170 yard offhand shot (with sticks), but before he could decide, the other vehicle spooked them again. So another chase and we catch up to the herd again (about 1.2 miles from the start by gps). Tommy hesitated on his first good chance at 200 or so yards. But they were angling closer to us. He had a really good 100 yard shot opportunity, but I noticed the other guys directly in the linf of fire another 200 or so yards past. We quickly moved far enough out of that line for both of our safety. The herd saw us move and was ready to go. Tommy got a good broadside shot at 120 yards on the lead cow, and she dropped. The other gkid did not take a shot. Hope he finds one now. We never got to talk to them. I hope he gets a cow and smile like Tommy's. One thing for sure, neither kid got excited enough to let lead fly indescriminitaley. There were about 40 or 50 or so elk, most bulls, and two really good ones for a tule. Getting a cow was just as tough as a bull and every bit as exciting for us... Amazing how you can get messed up by the competition on a hunt with only 4 tags, and I know one of those tagged earlier.

Tommy, CONGRATS on your Elk hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is great to see that your father is teaching you good hunting techniques and etiquette. You must be very proud and happy.

I am curious about your shooting sticks. Could you tell me what you are using? I am thinking of getting a set.

Thanks.

It is a Stoney Point Polecat. It is a bipod rest that adjusts from stiiting to standing height. It does not attach to the gun, you just rest it on it. It is a bit awkward to carry with the gun (ties to a pack easy), but really easy when I just adjust it and hand it to him.
