I have been reading about wild hog problems in San Diego County. Has anybody seen any hogs in the area? I have been on the Cleveland National Forest website and they have a map with highlited areas of where hogs have been seen, but it really hasn't been updated in a few years. Anybody done any hunting in the area or know of public lands that might be good for spot and stalk on some hogs?

I wish I could join you. I a deployed right now and won't be back until Oct. I think mostly of what I am going to hunt when I get back. Maybe November time frame if you are still up for it. Let me know if you end up seeing anything.

I would recommend you guys talk to a gentleman that lives in Descanso by the name of Doug. He runs a pig program out of his ranch, but he has the best advice and will let you in on a few areas he has seen pigs. They are mostly on private land, but a few always manage to get out of the comfort zone. The pig on my pic was taken out of CNF with the help and advice of Doug. He isn't hard to find, but if you cant find his info send me a PM.

Thanks. I will ping you in a month or so if you are still around. I am still deployed to SW Asia. Looking to hunt early winter when I get back.

I have looked for hogs in CNF before deer season (shifted gears, but still carry my pig tag). I have seen some signs near Julian, but ran into some really great signs in the Descanso district. Had to walk about 1 to 1.5 hours (losing signs of humans) before I saw tracks and root marks. But, it is like chasing a ghost. Fresh signs and then they go cold for months without any new ones. Of course, we've been going out in the mornings instead of evenings. I think since they are nocturnal, it's time to change tactics. Hope this gives some help and hope! Semper

I've killed one or two there, with a bow. My hunting partner killed a monster boar with a bow also (300lbs.+).

I'm down for some hog hunting in southern cali, especially interested in scouting some new trails.

If you are active duty and in so cal try vandenberg. There is a whole section on this forum about it. Plenty (relatively speaking for public land) of hogs there, and probably a bit easier to find than in san diego :pig-laughing:

Thanks. I am definitely planning on making some trips to Vandenberg. I also have an MA-1 deer tag, so I will be up in the area for a few weeks when I get back to the states.

I havent seen any sign of hogs on the backside of el cap lake or the reservations lately. Im pretty sure they should start moving back down that way from the mountains since it is getting colder. I cover ALOT of ground around the lake and havent seen any dig outs or tracks etc.
