Been a while since I posted but we have been catching a few hogs lately, and thought I post a Pict for those that care to see.
Not sure why the picture is so dark, but it was taken at 5:30 in the afternoon. I must have messed up the settings. I gave the hog to my neighbors who really appreciated it. No catch dogs were used just three cur dogs.

So how did ya get the curs to let go and stand back like they are for the photo? Just curious. Mine never seem to listen at all once their on a hog.

It has been my experience that the dogs are more aggressive about hanging onto the pig when you run catch dogs. Without catch dogs the situation mellows faster. It is tough to get your strike dogs to listen when your fighting to get a bulldog off the hog. Our strike dogs will bail as soon you kill the pig, or get ahold of it. They will head out to strike another. When the pig is still alive as in the photo, the dogs are trying to head out, to find another, calling them back in addition to the pig grunting and moving around works. For what ever reason their priority is finding the hog, not hanging on to it. There are times we have called them off large wet sows. Doesn't work all the time, and only with the more seasoned dogs.
