I had a phone call from Speck yesterday. He and his brother both got bulls. Sounds like his brother got a monster that will score high in B & C. Speck got a 5X5 that he said was a little smaller than last years but still a heck of a lot of meat. He won't be back for a few days because of taking the scenic route back but I am sure he will give us all of the details when he returns.

That's awesome, sounds like the new owners of the operation are running it better than the previous ones. I was there last year for first rifle season. 1 elk for 15 hunters for the week !!!!

Congrats Phil and Bro, can't wait to see some pics and here the whole story

Hey thanks for posting up, Dave!

Yeah, we did pretty good. I'm on a slow connection at a hotel in Grand Junction, CO this afternoon, so I don't wanna try to tell the whole tale right now. The very short version...

My brother shot a real nice 6x6 that will score around 315. We didn't even try to score my little 5x5 rack, which is fine because I don't have a lot of use for horns anyway.

The new operator IS a great guy, and it looks like they're taking the hunting seriously. The guides knew right where the elk were and put us on them right away. My brother scored on the opening day, and I took mine the next afternoon.

In the pic, you can definitely see that my bro's elk makes mine look like a blacktail. I'll put up more pics and the story when I get a better connection.

Nice going Speck. I was hoping that you guys would score. This just makes my Utah elk hunt next month seem that much farther away. I can't wait to get out into beautiful mountain country and hike around after one of God's best creations.
