Got this sow as she was feeding with her piglets in the mesquite trees around 7 pm. They did not see me so I knelt down and waited. I like to shoot behind the ear at the neck/spine and a piglet was blocking the shot. I have been rushing my shots the last few shots and this time I waited. The piglet moved and I had a clear shot, maybe 25-30 yards. She dropped.

I only got a quick glimpse after the shot and they were gone.

Behind the ear can be tricky as the spine on a pig is lower than most people think, so is the heart, and it's in between the shoulders.
Nice job getting in close ! What did she weigh ?

I have hit a little bit higher then on the spine a few times, but they still drop and are basically paralyzed. I just assume the shock of the bullet breaks the neck. To me, this is the best shot, I have not lost a hog yet, and when the head is down in the grass, the neck is like a bullseye. I do pride myself on getting close. I just have to be on alert all the time. I am usually in some sort of cover and when they are feeding, it seems like they just appear, and waking hogs up from under a cedar tree or out of bushes, they will shoot out, stop, look, and run, giving me only a second or two to shoot. As far as weight, I am not concerned with that and don't measure. Someone will always say "I got one bigger". Thanks for the comments guys.

Thanks jindy, Really sucks about Australia and the gun control. I just read this article yesterday:
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018...ive-gun-laws-are-working-nearly-well-chicagos

It is a lot more complicated than that article presents. The fellow who killed those people in WA, killed his whole family and then himself, was a licensed firearms owner and was obeying the law right up until he snapped. Now of course we have the anti's telling everyone that all Australia's gun owners are just psychopaths in waiting.....
There are more legally owned gun in Australia now than there were before the crap gun grab of 96, and crime of all sorts is going down. So Australia's experience, if it proves anything at all, is that gun ownership and violence are not linked in lockstep, in fact it is the other way around and more responsible gun owners means less crimes of violence.

You bet. We live on game meat, deer and pigs mostly. I can still own just about anything as long as it is not a semi-auto or is not a pump action shotgun. That pisses me off too, I had to hand over my Ithaca DS in the 96 gun grab :(

Interesting. Eliminating semi-autos and pump shotguns is a lot, though. I’d have to get rid of five guns with that law.

That means they are linked in lock step, bugt the inverse. Simply proof that gun ownership deters/reduces crime.

Their correlation now only shows us that gun ownership is not the cause of crime. The incidence of crimes of violence were heading down before the 96 gun grab and are still heading down, although there was a bit of a blip just after 96 that defies easy explanation. Licensed gun owners are the most law abiding of our citizens, and the more of us their are the better it is for everyone, but now the gun grabbers are trying to use this one horrific incident to paint us all as "murderers in waiting". It really is annoying. An article explaining the depth of hatred some have for us..... http://www.firearmownersunited.com/...esponsible-gun-owners-for-osmington-massacre/

Sorry for the hijack canamrider.

Good stuff as always. I'm almost beginning to think that you had to get rid of all the bluebell just to get room in the freezer for more hogs. Lol. Jk. I know there is always room for some bluebell.

Congrats on another nice hog. Way to get it done. BBQ time for sure..
