They want your address so that when the gun bans go into effect, they know right where to come. That way, they can get your guns and still have time to make the buffet at Shakeys.

My Dad and I were antelope hunting in the Likely Tables area around Alturas in 99. We were able to get permission to hunt some private ground out of Davis Creek and to get back to Alturas you had to go through the Ag check station. We ended up on the Garden and Dad got his antelope. Never left CA. Going back through to Alturas we were stopped and had to fill out the declaration form. I was a little irritated considering we didn't leave CA and it was a CA kill and I wanted to get to the meat locker before they closed and this was making us push the time. What a waste.

The other thing is, do you all know how many entry points in to CA aren't manned? I can think of two right off the top of my head.

Excellent question, cause here's what makes it totally senseless;

I went thru that same checkpoint late the next morning. They asked where I had come from, my response was Yuma. The guy said, OK, go ahead. I said, that's it? And he said "yeah, you guys were hunting, right". I said yep, and he said go ahead.

Why didn't he ask me to fill out a declaration I wonder.

Makes no frickin sense to me.......

The entry points at Halleluja Junction and Truckee were both manned AND STOPPING TRAFFIC for the first time in years two weeks ago, coming back from Coon Camp Springs. I haven't had to stop at either of those places since at least 1997.

So when you drive through Halleluja Junction do you stick your head out the winder and yell "Halleluja"?

Unfortunately, your state is more concerned with people smuggling Florida orange trees over the border, than they are addressing their elected officials sense of entitlement. The day that commerce has to stop because a shrimp is found in a dried up stream, should be a sign of California's armeggedon. I dont mean to lay it on so heavy, because Ca is a beautiful state. I loved every minute of living there. But, dadgum. Put the money where it is doing some good. I remember Ot and I getting stopped on our trip from AZ, when I took a javelina. They played 20 questions, and me being honest to a fault, offered up info that I had taken a javy. They made us unload the trailer (of course the cooler was the last item put in), and he took 2.5 seconds looking at it. Its almost like they need to exhibit some sort of control. Much like a cop with Napoleon's Complex.

I go through the Blythe & Vidal Junction checkpoints about 15 - 20 times a year. For most of the year, I'd say 90% of the folks cruising through are River bums returning from a great boating weekend. Even with my license plate, I've never been asked if I've got "game" on board - UNTIL the dove opener.

About 15 years ago, I got a little hassled at Vidal returning with my birds (NO personalized plate back then). I was asked to fill out the declaration form. Since then, I always bring the forms since I cross from the CRIT in AZ back to CA every day during season. In the last 15 years I guess I've been asked maybe three times for the form.

One year the CRIT F & G was doing their own inspection just before entering Parker. The CRIT agents handed all CA residents a declaration form after the inspection. They have their own form which is very similar to CA's.

The only time I could see the form saving my butt is for the CRIT duck opener which falls a week earlier than lower CA. I always have my form ready to go (that way I'll never get stopped........? )

QALHNTR, Do I know you???

I also give alot of my business to Vidal Jnctn and have never had a problem there. Hunting, fishing, or boating.

Just last week I was hunting the eastern Mojave and pulled up to Yermo AG Inspection station. I'm in a 4x4 with the gear in the back and this lil snoop wants to get nosey. He's got all of these questions and roving eyeballs and thinkin he's the lone ranger and going to protect California from evil doers. Where you been? Cima. whatcha been doin? Huntin Quail. Let's see. You can't cuz you just waved um through in that last black 4x4 you waved through. Pull over to the side! Don't think so pal unless you have a warrant. Wanna push it?

The "kid was about a 20 year old Hispanic that looked like he had about 6 hours on the job. Now I don't give any LEO a bad time unless they are outta line. I have been known to carry a shield of some kind from time to time and I do not look for a problem but I will not be intimidated by some one on a power trip. I was not hauling any ag products what-so-ever and had not been out of the state.

If I had been driving a low-rider hauling some type of plant the clown would have prolly waved me through.
