I was at the ranch yesterday looking for hogs, waking a ridge line that lets me look into the valleys on both sides. I spotted a buck bedded down about 50 yards ahead, not unusual as they love that area to bed down. This one clearly knew that the deer season was over as when I approached him he had no interest at all in running away! I walked within 20 feet of him before he moved a bit as seen in the video, but then he stopped by the tree and started to move toward me! Knowing it's the rut I decided I'd rather not challenge a buck looking for a fight so I backed off and started throwing rocks and sticks at him. Had to almost hit him before he grudgingly moved 10 yards down the hill so I could pass. Either a very smart deer or a very dumb one!
Lots of hog sign but none spotted.
