Well, the Nazi's have finally gotten to the last vestages of corporate America...

It appears my Employer has rescinded all 1st and 2nd ammendment rights as there is now a big, red, "WEBSITE POLICY VIOLATION" message that pops up instead of JHO, Cabelas, BassPro, GlockTalk, MonsterMUlies, or ANYTHING else worth reading.

That SUCKS!

IT's been 10 days since I've been able to glance at the beautiful tan colors of the JHO website, let alone read the goings on and posts of my fellow hunters. Ooohhh the withdrawl's are SO painful!

Oh well, that's what family is for. Besides, it's a good excuse to visit with Grandma and Grandpa, and raid the fridge (you're never too old for that!!!)

Hope all is well.

I'll be silent for some time.

oz,

I'm sorry for you. But the truth is that this policy have been upheld my the courts.

In fact, for me (and some other incorrigbles here at JHO) we run the risk of being fired if our employer decides to crack down and wants to find reason for us to be kicked out.

Last year, my employer installed a firewall that blocks anything resembling hunting and firearms and ammo. Well that means I take my JHO "fix" at home exclusively. I bought this cheapo computer from FRY'S Electronics store for $499(without monitor, 40 Gigabytes hard drive) and I mainly use it to log on to the internet via DSL connection. It has been almost 2 years now and this cheapo computer("Great Quality" is the brand name but I dunno' about the long term durability) is still workin' and hummin'.
I am happy to do the JHO "fix" at home so that I am not bothered by "Big Brother" at work and not have to worry I am breaking some company rule or protocol. Home sweet home with my cheapo PC and JHO online. God Bless.

I'm sure you can disable the firewall blocking your access. Unless its a rights setting on your profile. Open up IE (internet Explorer) go to tools, connections, lan settings. uncheck all the boxes close IE and reopen it and give it a try.

I work in the IT dept for my work. If you want full access go buy your IT tech lunch.

Ah, yeah but if your users have local admin rights they can pretty much do whatever they want to their PC.

They can do whatever they want to their local machine, but they can't disable Websense. Not to mention, you get screwing around with those security settings, especially on IE, and you're gonna end up with the latest, greatest bug infecting your machine and possibly your network. That doesn't go over very well with the boss.

OZ, you probably can't read this right now, but I just saw one great bit of advice... go buy your network guy some lunch. Certain sites can be excepted from the filter without bringing down the whole thing.

You can also try installing a different web browser like Firefox or Opera. Using a different browser often works at my workplace.

Aren't you at work to work? Ethics?[/b]

Maybe I should've explained... I don't get paid by the hour. If I DID get an hourly wage, I would consider it STEALING from my employer to surf the net while on the clock. Instead I am 100% commission. I meet ALL of my goals, and actually EXCEED most of them. I sell more than most people in my company.

What does it matter if I decide to play a little while at work? It costs them nothing. And in fact, INCREASES MY PRODUCTIVITY! Otherwise... I tend to get a little STRESSED OUT. Nobody wants me to take STRESS LEAVE, do they?

I surf the web at work. Do I feel guilty? No. And I have no reason to feel guilty. I suppose if I was digging holes and stopped to go sit in front of a computer for hours on end, then yeah, that may be a little different.

Everyone has a different take on this and I am open to reading all opinions. Nobody wants stressed out employees regardless of performance and productivity. Stress, fatigue, burnout are things we all experience and should take steps to alleviate. If an employee felt I was a Nazi I would hope they would resign and move on rather than be bitter and hang on. As a small business owner I have taken a big hit on two occasion's when innocent Internet surfing brought on a virus that crashed my system the first time, and corrupted our databases the second time. Total cost for both…. $37,0000. I would much rather have someone take some time off, paid, like a Friday to get in an extra day of hunting, than have everyone hurt by a virus. Just my humble experieice.

I did have an employee who surfed onto some offshore sites of shall we say questionable content. He used a feild office dial up connection and went home without logging off. I received a phone bill for 58 hours of internet connection at something like 6.00/minuite. I took it out of his paycheck and warned him that the next time would be his last.
