Hi everybody. Jack from http://hogcanyonhunts.com/ called me yesterday to tell me the pigs were in the barley and I jumped at the opportunity. Left home at 3:45AM and met Jack at around 8AM. After a 20 minute drive to the ranch, we were looking for the hogs. Walked around the tall barley where he had seen them the day before for about an hour for nothing. Although he thought he saw one but we were unable to find it. He recommended that we go to a higher elevation and wait for them to come out. You could easily see where they've been walking and bedding but the barley is so tall that unless the hogs were very tall, you could not see them. Sure enough, after 5 to 10 minutes from the hill across the way, there they were. About 50 to 100 yards from where we were walking. 10 to 15 hogs of different sizes. They started walking the other way and Jack said they were going to the watering hole so we jumped back into his 4 wheeler and drove around and then walked into the barley (jack had his gun ready just in case they came out ready to attack). We waited for them to pass so that they would not wind us but fortunately, that never happened. In fact, we never saw them until we got to the top of this hill and the hogs were at the bottom where there was a mud pit. After observing them for a few minutes, they started to walk away and Jack told me it was time to take one of them. I picked what seemed to be the one of the bigger ones. I put the cross hairs on him and pulled the trigger. This thing dropped right there! The rest run in all directions. I thought about taking a second one but I just would not know what to do with so much meat. According to Jack, the hog was about 225#s. In any case, here are a couple of pics and a video. Enjoy!
BTW, Jack is a great guy. I would highly recommend his services.
