I am planning a pig hunt with a friend and his two teenage daughters. They are both experienced wing shooters and I believe the elder has taken a deer.

I would like a couple of suggestion for the four of us on who to go with.

Thanks in advance.

Dakota,

You have many choices. You could sign up for the "Pig O Rama" (Self Guided) that a lot of JHP'ers are going on in March & April. Its conducted at the Tejon Ranch, which is huge. the cost is $300, plus $10.00 for insurance. I personally have never shot a hog there, but I hear its a blast.

You can call around to one of the many licensed guides who run Pig hunts. Most guides you will find charge anywhere from $400 to $700 for a hunt, depending on what they have to offer and the duration of the hunt. The success rate usually on these hunts are excellent. I'm going this Friday on a hunt with Mustang Guide Service out of King City. I've hunted with this guide before and had great success. Some other guides I have heard good things about or used is Tom Willoughby, Nessin Schmit, Kyle Hammon (Boaring Exp), Eldon Bergman, Devils Guide Service, Hogs Wild......My best advice, set aside some time and call a bunch of them up and see what they have to offer and make your decesion based on what suits your needs. Its a lot of fun and you will make a lot of memories.

Another option is, if you dont wanna pay for a guided hunt you can always hunt public land and try your luck. If you need anymore help with this ask away, alot of good info on this site. Good luck to you on whatever you decided and keep us posted on your final decesion.

Hey Dakota,

Check out the guides listed on Jesse's main page, and also the Guide List from CA Hog Hunter.

Ca Hog Hunter Guides list

Ca Hog Hunter also includes write-ups from people who've been out with guides, and they DO include the negative write-ups as well as the positive.

I definitely think going with a guide is the best deal for the number of folks you're talking about, and because the girls are young. A little success is definitely the thing to keep them interested. A death march through public land without seeing a pig is a good way to turn them off forever.

Good luck!

I have done the public land thing, I wouldn't do that to girls I like.

What I am looking for is accomodations that would be appropriate for a couple of young girls. Thier Dad and I can rough it, but I figured that we would be a little kinder to them.

The lodging on a Tejon guided hunt is very nice. If you book during the week you will probably have to lodge to yourself and the 2 guides. Plenty of room and there would be enough privacy for the girls.

It's a great hunt.
