I talked to an old farmer who is wanting to try to totally eliminate hogs from a new high fenced area. Hog dogs have been tried, but with little success due to the extremely thick brush. He says that he tried hog traps and only catches the little ones, just making the big ones harder to kill.

Any suggestions that I can pass along? I get the idea that he's not interested in keeping it sporting anymore, just really wants to eliminate the dang things from inside the fenced area (couple hundred acres).

I've heard that you can't poison a hog, but I've always wondered if it was just an old wives tale. The only way I've ever found to get rid of them is to use a rifle at night with a red spotlight, and then I'm sure you never get all of them.

Bait and an AR-10 with a night scope?

As for bait in traps, there's a local trapper I've heard of who uses the leftover mash from a local brew pub to bring in the hogs.
Says it's like crack to the porkers.
