Superior mayor fined for hunting violation
SUPERIOR, Wyo. (AP) - Mayor Bill Coble was fined $400 for attempting to shoot too many elk.
He was caught after taking a shot at a Wyoming Game and Fish Department decoy.
"I shot a dummy," he said. "The biggest part that bothered me was the game warden was a friend of mine."
Coble admitted to taking the shot Oct. 17 after already harvesting an elk. He said he was returning from a hunting trip near Saratoga with his wife, who had successfully recorded a kill, and was "backing her up."
His wife took a shot and couldn't bring down the elk, so Coble tried to help out.
"When she shot and it didn't go down, I shot and I shouldn't have," he said.
He said he paid the fine by mailing a check, "just like a speeding ticket."
