Last month, my partner and I put out 4 trailcams in Coconino National Forest in preparation for my fall 6A bull hunt. My buddy Chuck went out wed to change batteries and found 2 of the 4 cameras all cockeyed, like someone was playing with them. Those 2 had the top straps popped and they fell foward with the lense facing the tree.

Upon checking the SD cards, he found that the elk were the ones playing with the cameras. Elk are attracted to cameras? Who knew?

Whats really nice, the cameras with the most elk activity (so far) are an easy walk from the campground. The forest antelope is the second one that's showed up on camera. As I understand it, they only give out about 5 tags a year for those. I think we found were all 5 of those hang out.

man Dann, that IS a good spot! Is this hunt rifle? 1-2-3rd season etc... How hard was it to draw? If it's the right dates I could come along as your wing-man if you want...

Its rifle, over thanksgiving, so late season. It took me 3 pref pts. I applied twice and took AZ's hunter safety course which gives you a permenant pref pt, so 3 pts total. After 5 years, you get a permenant loyalty pt as well.

Thanks for the offer Kevin, LOL, I have two wingmen as it is, anymore and we'll be officially a mob!

I can't take credit for finding the spot, one of the wingmen, is my long time partner Chuck (15 years) and that's his deer/turkey area. He did all the legwork as its only 2 hours from his house. It's quite a ways back in the Coconino National Forest.

But, almost ALL of 6A is infested with elk. One of the reasons I applied for it was 20% of the elk take in AZ comes out of 6A, that and they give out a buttload of tags. The draw back is for nonresidents its $150 for the license and $595 for the tag.
