Working on putting together a new surf fishing set up. Picked up a Okuma 4000 reel next after a 10' rod. Note though for sand perch and the like one only need light gear and to fish the white water right behind the breakers. I'm looking to get out a litter farther to hook some halibut and such.

Never got a chance to surf fish had a friend that use too. Since I moved to Florida I have a shark pole set up for surf fishing but never tried it yet But would like too. I have a nice Okuma reel on GLoomis but that’s my trout freshwater set up.
Saw a guy fly fishing the surf on a beach here and he hooked a nice snook, that look like fun….tra

Your trout rig will work for fishing the white water just behind the breakers. But if you want to get out the larger fish you will need a different setup. Just talk to a few of those surf fisherman they will advise you as to what you need. Most of them you will find to be helpful people.
