Actually, this is more of a welcome to the new forum post.  Looks like there were so many of us talking hogs, we needed to get separate from the regular big game board.  And since the prime season is practically upon us (prime season being the time when we can't hunt ducks, deer, or elk)...  well, it only seems right.

I sent Jesse an email asking what it meant to be moderator, and I guess he felt like the best way to show me was to make me one...  so here I is.

Looks like the transition sort of scrambled some posts, and I've seen lots of old ones move back to the top.  Check the posted dates if you're wondering about an "upcoming" hog hunt, that turns out to have been held in December.... or a weekend plan that was actually in October.

I'm relatively new at the whole hog hunting thing.  I've read a lot, and learned a lot reading some of the posts on this and other boards, but after a couple of years, I still haven't actually shot my own pig without the help of a guide yet.  My time will come, though.  I look forward to sharing and learning with you all.

Speckmisser, glad to have you as moderator. I'm pretty new to this forum but sure do enjoy it! It's nice to have something that's pretty local. (Thanks Jesse).
Here in Bakersfield there is always talk of hogs and every other kind of hunting so I'll try to pass on what I can.
I think this forum for hogs was a great idea!!!

Good Luck,
Kernhuntr

Aw, heck, there goes the neighborhood!

Seriously, glad to have the new forum and I think Jesse did a fine job picking you to run the show.

Regards,
Paul

Glad to be here, ya'll.

I'm hoping some of this discussion will rub off and end up as pork in my freezer.  I just pulled out a roast from last year's pig, and it's looking kinda empty in there.

Sorry 'bout the neighborhood, Paul.  I promise to try to keep the beer cans inside the fence.

Thanks for being our Moderator.  You didn't mention what your responsibilities are.  Just guessing, I'd think that you are here to help us stay out of trouble.  Thanks.

Responsibilities?  Jesse didn't say anything about responsibilities!  Just said have fun.

I suppose I'd have to play firefighter in the event of a flame war, but we wouldn't get involved in anything like that, would we?

Nope, this is hog hunting.  No season, no limit.  Just find 'em and shoot 'em!

I'm having a little problem with the finding part.

Glad to see someone take this board.

I am sure that Specmisser has a nice picture of him and his pig that would go nicely up there for the forum.  You know the one Speckie, the one with you and that native brush you are so fond of kneeling in.

Thanks for starting this forum.  I am looking for Hogs in all the wrong places.  Hopefully some of us can share helpful info. on Hog Hunting and places to find them.  Also I would enjoy meeting and perhaps hunting with folks who enjoy the chase and the bounty.  I am a lifelong deer hunter but no Hogs, but I have the fever now, thanks to the Forum.  It's raining right now and I can not wait for it to stop so I can go up by San Luis Obispo and look for Hogs (after the rains) in the NF.  I prefer not to hire a Guide for several reasons (cost being one).  Good luck to us all.  Suuueeeey.

Welcome Slip Sliding!

As you'll probably find, most of the hog hunters on here spend most of their time hunting, and not nearly as much butchering pork.  Don't feel alone.  They're really tough to get at on public land.

On the way back from Coalinga yesterday, I saw a total of about 30 hogs, mainly in one big herd of about 15 or so, and several others out in the open.  All of them were on private property, but clearly visible from the road.  Kinda makes the decision to pay for access a little easier to make.
