my dad just bought a old model contender(not the G2) off of my uncle and it came with a 30. herrett barrel and a 4x burris scope. we have the dies for it to reload but i told my dad im not cutting all of these 30-30 cases down so you can shoot this gun. i said maybe wut u ought to do is sell this barrel n buy a 30-30 barrel. the gun shop has one new for 140 bucks(i dont kno if thats a good price or not is it?) i think we would be better off with the 30-30 because the 30 herrett is just a under powered 30-30 so why not have the 30-30 and dont have to worry about trimming down cases so we can shoot the herrett. it looks like a fun caliber to shoot but it hasnt caught my eye and id much rather have a 357 mag barrel for it. what barrels do you guys use in yours?

$140 for a new contender barrel is a good price . I have a variety of barrels but I shoot mostly the 357 mag ,.223 and a 7tcu , I have other barrels includeing 10 inch barrels in both the 30 and 357 herrett . I have been watching for a 14 inch 30 herrett for use in unlimited big bore Silhouette witch is exactly what it was designed for .If you are interested in selling it or tradeing let me know.

The best advice I can give you is to go to the forum that has a buch of specialty pistol shooters in it who can give practical help: Specialty Pistols
I don't have a 30-30 myself, but many there do and can help you

Graybeard Outdoors has lots of shooters with those guns. They'll help ya'.
As for the 30 Herrett:
Steve Herrett designed that cartridge to more efficiently use the 10" barrels of the time.
The 30-30 Win fired in the same length barrel would produce more blast and less performance.
Bob Milek shared in it's development.
If a super 14 barrel is used, the Herrett has little gain on the 30-30.

Lemme know what you need for that barrel and dies? Perhaps you'd prefer to shoot another caliber?
I've got a few that I could trade.
Thanks,
Jimmy
