I was talking with some of the guys at West End Gun Club about a Tactical bolt action rifle match using a variety of targets, both moving and stationary. At ranges from 100 to 500yards. I could have it in Sept or so. That should give plenty of time to set it up. Would any of you So.Cal. shooters like to come?

Sounds like fun. I didn't know you guys had 500 yards out there. You might try to hold it before the local deer seasons start, as it would be a great way to sight in and tune up.

DKScott,
West End has a 500plus yard shoot every month on the 3rd Sunday. Tactical, hunting, varmint, and service rifles are all welcome. Be sure to bring 34 rounds of ammo and something to lay on. The match is real casual however safety is always the number one priority. I usually attend every match unless something comes up. These matches would be a great place for JHP people to meet.

I just got back from the high power match at west end gun club. What a great time, I have a Tikka match rifle in .223 and wanted to test her out long distance. 90% (273/300) not to bad a score (for me).

In addition to my rifle we had a couple of Winchester model 70's, a couple of M1As and an AR on the service rifle/match rifle side of the line. There were all sorts of fancy rifles with those funny looking tubes on top at the other end. Some of them even had two feet up front.

It's amazing what can be done open sight at 570+ yards guys! Drag out those old match rifles and service rifles and have some fun next month. We ususlly finish between 12:00 and 1:00 for those of you who are whipped and have honey do's in the afternoon! JK!

Sounds fun, The terrain is pretty good out there that you could incorperate a stalk into it. Also i think movers, bobbers and UNKNOWN DISTANCE are a must! I know some of Palma guys would kick butt on known distance stuff but this would definitly be fun count me in if i am stateside!

Hi Men, I have read some of the "posties" as I guess there called and it's good to see an interest in the Match Jim and I plan to put on for you sharpshooters out there. Just so you folks know, without giving out too much detail, this will be geared toward being a tactical rifle match since none are available for the bolt type guns with those telescopes mounted on them. More details in time, however if you can shoot One-Minute- of-Angle out to 500 yards, you shouldn't have a problem. Being accurate and properly identifying the right target is another story altogether. Hope to see you out there and good luck, Mark...

Datum,
Per our conversation, I got some ideas:

Start match with a "kims" game that competators will not beabel to take notes on and will be requierd to fill out at the end of match.

2. 100 yard cold bore shot.

3. 100 yd position shooting (unsupprted, prone, sitting, kneeling and standing) at human sized heads.

4. stress shot at 100yd zero (1 inch) target. this should include a 200 yd run at a pace set by range SO and allowed 2 min to take shot once range SO comes on the firing line or the first round goes down range whichever comes first. basically you cant fall behind the pace man but if you are fast and crank off the first round you set the pace and force the other guys to really stress themselves. I have always found this fun.

5. movers and bobbers from 100-600 yards.

6. Unknown target identification from 100-600 yards. I would really like to see this pushed out to 1000 but I dont think you have the facility for this.

try to make it 2 man teams, sniper/observer. these 2 will both shoot each stage but to keep it realistic they sould not engage the same targets on the unknown distance portion.

aside from the 100 yard cold bore, position shooting and strees shot all targets shoud be man sized (from waste up).

well as they say "theres my 10 cents, my 2 cents are free"
