Okay, today I told myself, shoot like it is a money shot. Dont just mash the shutter down and hope to get a few good ones... So I set up in a place that I was pretty sure I could get some silhouettes with the sun going down. Thinking artistically I started shooting flowers, grasses, birds, insects, just having a good day and I started thinking, "you know today is already a good day even if I dont get any good whitetail photos",

Until these guys stepped into view,

Then these guys

Then this guy, (this is the big 10 point from last year)

This is "big 10" again, laying down while the rest of them passed on by,
he then picks up on a doe comming his way, I thought it was a pretty
cool photo.

As the sun was going down, I saw a couple of bucks running my way, I
quickly grabbed my cam and basically shot from the hip, I think it is pretty cool.

Today was definitly one of my best days for seeing animals, plus I made more of
an attempt to get better composed photos, let me know what you think?

Very Cool Photos! I like the one with all of the bucks together the best. I think you composed them very well.

LL - Good stuff. I really like the pair doing the "eyes left". All well composed. Looks like you had the Golden Light at the end of the day after some practice with the camera. Nice going. WB

The 10 and Doe is a wonderful shot. Great capture.

The group photo is cool and intruiging, but not as quality as the 10 and Doe.

Very nice Lan, must be heart racing to have all that going on!!! What is the distance involved?

Hey Jim,

Most of the deer were between 40 and 50 yards.. I spotted them out about 100 yards and then luckily they started comming my way. It is funny, Im not even squeezing a trigger and I still get the shakes!

Hey Boss,

They are free ranging deer, however their has not been any hunting (that I know of) on this land since the 60's. The spread is roughly 1500 acres. I met with a wildlife biologist and he said that there is roughly 10 deer per acre.

Lan-lord, excellent photos as usual. Keep them coming. It looks like you were once again in the right place at the right time. I really like the photo of the big buck bedded with the doe out in front. That is one beautiful place with lots of animals. Did the biologist say 10 deer to 1 acre? Good grief most of Texas has 15-30 deer per square mile. Anything more than 45 deer per square mile is phenomenal, which is 1 deer per 14 acres. I'd say you found a honey hole!!! Keep up the great work!

That's ok Lan-lord, I thought you had found the motherload and by looking at all your photos I thought there really might be 10 deer per acre!
<

But 1 deer per 10 acres is more realistic.lol However, 1 to 10 acres is still a very very high ratio, so I think you still have a heck of a honey hole.

Why is no one allowed to hunt on this place? I didn't know there was a 1,500 acre block of land in Tx that wasn't hunted.lol
