NikolaKangrga – You should have left the name out of your experience. But Rustic Cabins, hot dogs/hamburgers and truck rides are hunting. That actually sounds a lot better than some of the places that I have been to (but I guess that’s why the wife won’t go with me).

Catchdog – no doubt TX has a lot more places to hunt for a whole lot less $. But to go from CA to TX for a hog hunt is a huge trip. It’s quicker, easier (and might even be cheaper) for a Californian to book a hunt in CA.

Don't take this wrong, I am really not trying to be a jerk, but do you remember the title and first post in this thread? This entire thread is about how it is ok to post the name of the outfitter for the benefit of all of us who use this forum regularly.

This is from Speckmisser's original post: "I'm here to tell you that not only is it OK to name names, it's better for everybody if you do."

I could not agree with you more. Those are all parts of a hunting, camping, fishing, and even hiking experience. But, from my experiences, You dont spend the weekend riding around in a pickup (but then again, 90% of my hunting is done on public land). I have seemed to notice that you see more game off the road then you do in a diesel dodge (running). But then again, it is private property and Iam sure things are much different. As for the cabin... I was just stating it was a very rustic cabin. It did put a roof over our head. And for the hot dogs and hamburgers, if you know me, you know I have NOTHING against a good old fashion hot dog or hamburger. The things mentioned were part of my weekend experience and felt the WHOLE story should be told, versus parts and pieces. If you re-read the story, you may understand why I was not 100% satisfied with my hunt.

NikolaKangrga – I understand and I agree with everything you say, I’m just letting you know (which you have learned now) if you don’t want the “Myspace” drama, you should leave out the names. From one of your last post –

Tim, I feel as if you feel Iam targeting you personally, not your business. Like I told you multiple times, nothing I wrote was meant to target you personally. I would also like to add, Tim, I like you as a person. I spent two days with you, we shared a few laughs and a great harvest (my opinion). The reason I posted how I felt about my hunt was because the TOPIC of this forum is "Talking about guides and experiences". I shared my experience.
<O:p
You sound you liked the guy and did not think he would hear about this. That’s the only reason I said you should have left out his name.
<O:p
Jaehunt – I remember the title of the thread. My only add to this is – if you still want to be a friend to a guide – don’t name them and then share a semi bad experience about them. It will discourage other hunters even talking to the guy. That will cost them $ and clients. They probably wont be your friend anymore.

If you don’t care about the guy or his business – then go ahead and name them. Now if the guy is a crook or a fraud and you’re telling everyone in the world to stay away from him – then yes list the name.

And for the record - I like everyone :wavin hello:

bpnclark,
I hear you loud and clear. I do respect Mr. Lockwood. Like I said, he is a great person. But I did expect him to read this post. As the "customer", I see nothing wrong with mentioning the name of the outfit. But yes, if you expect to have a friendship with the person, then your correct. The one thing I have noticed here at Jesses, is that you hear ALL the great experiences (kill or no kill), but you rarely hear the poor or not quite what you expected experiences. I feel as if more of the less perfect experiences should be mentioned. Not only for the outfit but for the customers "us" as well. Just my :two cents:</o></o>

Thanks for posting your story NikolaKangrga. I think it does the members a favor to read about first hand experiences allowing them to make and better decision on where and with whom to hunt.

I agree with Flatbroke!
Nick thanks for posting your story. I have never hunted with a guide but if I do, it's posts like this that help me understand and know what I would expect out of a guided hunt. As well the right and wrong questions to ask.
Thanks again.

The policy here is you can post a review as long as you can back up what you say. Just bashing an outfitter or guide because you didn't score is not tolerated.

Claiming someone sucks or shouldn't be guiding doesn't make the cut. Telling us why they suck and shouldn't be in business will.

We'll also invite the company or guide in here for their side of the story so just make sure you stick to the facts. A good business owner worth a hoot will take any DESERVED criticism and improve their product or service.

Thanks for posting the report Nikola, and also on landing a gal that will drop the coin on a hunt for you, though we all know in the end you will offset that with jewelry and such, we all do.

I personally think twice about using a service or business if I can only find positive references. With all the idgets out there that bitch about stuff that they shouldn't, finding a business with zero criticisms is a red flag to me.

Sorry, have not had bad experiences to share. Only good times with Kyler Hamann. He is in the Parkfield / central coast area. Professional ethical hunter and guide, Worked hard at getting my dad a trophy size boar and meat pigs for my friend and I. Nice guy to boot. He has access to many ranches others don't as he is related to several owners in Parkfield area. Good pigs and good times. Kyler is the way to go. Sean Ballard

good luck and safe hunting

Here is our JHO Guide/Outfitter Review section. Please leave your reviews there by telling us what you liked or disliked like about your hunt. Saying someone sucks isn't what folks want when doing research for a hunt, they want to know WHY your trip sucked or WHY you enjoyed yourself. Be specific, it helps to know the details up front.

My very first guided hunt and first hog hunt was with Nolan Twissleman of Twissleman Outfitters. It was a great experience for me and Nolan worked hard to get me my first hog.
