Damien, you need to get a squirrel gun to practice your rifle skills it really helps; just like the bow practice, practice, practice.

Yeah I definately need the practice and with no nearby range options at home the Tejon squirrel shooting sounds like the perfect way to get better...

Hmm any recommendations on an inexpensive yet efficient squirrel gun? That has copper readily available?

Great write up Hifi. I was up there yesterday for my first trip with the Spring Pass. I went to my most reliable spot on the north side and spotted a pig up on the hill from my truck. Hindsight tells me I should have hiked to the ridge above the pig and stalked from above, but I didn't and never saw him again. I heard squealing further back in the canyon below the first pig, but didn't see anything. A hike to the top of the opposite hill revealed 10 more pigs on the same hill the first one was on. I figured that if they were out on the opposite hill, more would be on the hill I was on. I sat down and dozed off(one of my favorite things to do in the woods). After I woke up a little while later I heard a squeal really close. When the pig didn't show, I figured it had winded me since the wind was swirling all afternoon. I didn't get to fling an arrow, but had a great time.

Sounds like a fun time.. sorry I missed you up there! We must have passed each other on Wheeler ridge road!

Inexpensive?????????? I have a Savage .204 love the gun and caliber. I got the gun with 4-14 power scope for 600.00 on gunbroker. I reload the bullets to make it cheap and comply with the lead ban. I shoot about 50 rounds a weekend so It can be expensive if you don't reload.
If the ammo makers ever get their act together for non lead the .17 or the 22lr may be the way to go for the most inexpensive option.

If your ever up when I'm there look me up during the day and we'll give the 204 a workout I know you'll love it.

Inexpensive squirrel rifle that shoots non-lead? Get a good .22mag. You can find a Marlin, CZ, or Savage for a decent price (used ones are pretty easy to find).

The CCI Green ammo isn't cheap, compared to lead, but it's cheap enough that you can afford to shoot it (as opposed to the centerfire options).

The .22 LR is OK, but the non-lead ammo apparently still isn't on the market, and the range and power limitatons of the .22 long cause you to miss some of the fun of varmint shooting.

Good one Speck, I forgot about the 22mag. Last time I paid 17 bucks for 50 rounds I think

Do you have any new info on when the .17 and 22lr will be on the market?
