Wow, what a great time. I just finally rolled in and I am pretty sure my group was the first to leave. It was nice to meet up with some old friends and make some new ones. Tejon is simply AWESOME. This was my first time ever being on the ranch and I enjoyed myself. The weather was perfect and the company was even better. The piggies were out the party was on. When I left this morning I think there was 10 hogs taken this weekend. Guys are still in the hills as I type this. My group (Superduty, Shawn and I) went 3 for 3 on some nice pigs. Every pig I saw was a great looking hog. Thanks to Speck for throwing this trip together, it was a sure success.

Here's my story:

Friday morning I arrive at Superduty's house at 0darkthirty and we drive up. We met half the group at the J for some good grub. We headed over to the ranch and after a short briefing we get on the ranch. We got done with briefing at 12 noon and got down to the campsite at around 12:30. We unloaded and I jumped in Superdutys rig and we hit the hills. We hit a few spots and didnt see any hogs. We saw pretty fresh sign all over the ranch. A few hours went by and no luck and we tried a few other spots. About an hour left of light we hit one last spot and got out of the truck and started to walk through a meadow and 13 small hogs (50lbs-75lbs) range jumped up and stand to quater away. We looked at them for awhile and no one wanted to shoot any of those. We kept trucking through this meadow and Superduty (Dave) and Shawn wanted to head up a draw. I wanted to head over to another area where I saw some fresh sign and check it out. We all split up and did our own thing. I found a nice oak tree to sit under were I could glass up a canyon and see if anything would come down to water/feed. About 25 minutes go buy and Shawn came down to my location and sat with me and helped glass. 10 minutes later to my left we hear this god awful crashing trough the bushes and there are 8 good size hogs 75 yards from us running at full speed. Hot on there trail is a Calf chashing them. Shawn and I look at each other and jump up and shoulder our rifles. I put my sights on the one I wanted and lead the pig just off her nose and KA BOOM! I missed, shot 6 inches in front of her
<
. I lead her to much. Shawn shot and missed. My hog stopped in her track and bolted the other way. I racked another round and connected on the second shot. She rolled down the hill and I walked over and guted her there. She was a 145lb Sow. We dragged her a short disance to Superdutys truck and headed to camp. When we got to camp Buck-Eye had a nice Big Boar hangin in camp. Those were the only pigs taken Friday night.

Saturday morning we woke up and we needed to fill Superduty and Shawn's tag. We jumped in the rig and no more than 15-20 minutes up the hill Superduty dumped a nice 275lbs Boar (I'll let him tell his story).

Saturday night we were off again to fill Shawns tag. Dave took us to an area that he has had success in the past. Dave got all set up on a road with his beach chair and Binos and Shawn and I headed up those NASTY Tejon Ridges. The plan was Dave was gonna glass up the hogs and point us in the right direction cause we couldnt see what was below us. Dave was across the canyon and we could see each other. About 30 minutes of light left and Dave see's some hogs a couple of ridges over. There was no way we could get to those hogs in time. 5 minutes later Dave glasses up 6 nice hogs coming right at us. These hogs we one riddge over and coming up hill RIGHT AT US. Shawn and I get set up and here they come. The first one gets to 20 yard mark and STOPS. Were laying with our bellys on the ground and the grass is so high she cant see us but she winds us. She sits there for 5 seconds and cant figure out what that smell was. Shawn and I pop up and KA-BOOM. Shawn makes a perfect shot and she falls. Now the work begins, were VERY far from the truck and deep in the canyon. It took us a long time but we got her out. Got her back to camp and skinned and on ice. What a weekend!!!!!

All in all it was a great time. Everyone who got hogs got some monsters and worked for them. I want to thank Speck for putting this trip together and making all this happen. Dave, its always a pleasure hunting with ya and I wouldnt have it any other way. Congrat's to all who scored and I'm sure there will be some more that are taken tonight off of the ranch. Cant wait to to it again in 2006.

Here she is:

Way to go guys. It's going to be great reading all of these stories as they come in. I'll be up at Tejon this coming weekend on an archery hunt. Hopefully I'll have my own great story to tell.

Just rolled in a little while ago..

Got my hog at about 10:00 this morning, stopped to check one last place on my way back to camp to pack up...And I shot him out of his bed.

There were a couple more still out when I split, and Scott (Great White Hunter) was going to hit it for his last shot this evening. I'm betting he scores.

Speck will have the final tally, but I'm betting we go 50%.

More later, my body is absolutely hammered.

Here is my pig. Got her Friday night from 226 yards. Perfect shot, and even better, she rolled right down to a bladed road. Took some photo's, field dressed her and threw her in to the truck. More to come. She weight 150 dressed, and I would say 200 on the hoof. Brian (Hoghunter714) thanks for the saw, as well as Pitdog Steve. Rancho John, thanks for the beer after I killed the pig. It was my first beer in months, and it tasted great.

Good job guys. I had a great time. Seeing Buckeye make two deadly cross-canyon shots on the same hog was incredible.

I only fired one round, and man, was it a doozy!!!

Can somebody post up a digital pic of my prize?

Brent. I think Speck is the only one with a digital pic. If he hasn't posted up when my pics come back in a couple hours I'll post one.
