Speck,
I have been on too many hunts whereupon my trusted hunting partner(s) forgot to bring a flashlight, toilet paper, knife or orange hat. So now as a matter of course, there is an extra mini-flashlight, spare flashlight bulb, spare AA batteries, spare orange hat, extra knife & extra toilet paper in my pack. It is just a life saver when out in the boonies to MAGICALLY hand a spare flashlight to my hobbling, stumbling in the dark hunting partner who of course forgot a flashlight(always happens, toilet paper too, knife too). Oh well, I just compensate for a little lapse here & there & it saves bountifully in time & effort when out in the boonies. 'Nuff said. God Bless.

While I was offloading I look up to see Kenny checking me out through the binoculars. I'm flipping him off and wondering why the hell he's still looking at me in the binos when I hear him scream, "pigs, pigs behind you." I immediately spin with my ass hanging out trying to find these pigs.[/b]

Good points, Larry.

I usually have double of everything in my pack, but after tagging out the previous day, I'd already unpacked some of my gear and was travelling really light.

The one thing I usually carry that wasn't in my thigh pack is a water filtration bottle. MAN I wish I'd had that thing Sunday night. That, and an extra flashlight would have gone a long ways down in that canyon.

Live and learn.

I try and carry extra also but it adds up in weight real quick after dumping a nice hog in that death hole.

Saturday night when I caught up to Brian and Shawn with the game cart to help drag out Shawn's pig I found out Shawn had no flashlight either so luckily I had an extra to give him. I ended up giving him my headband flashlight so that never happens again.
<
I used my maglight to get out with. Now I can run out and buy a new headband light.

Also, don't forget the camera.
I wish I had it on me during my most recent hunt.
Those headlamps are nice. I carry two w/me when in the field.

Speckmisser,
What kind of frame is that in the pic? I have a fieldline that I put Kelty
straps and belt on. II haven't tried it out yet.
If yours is the same, I was wondering how you like it.
What did you use to secure your load to the frame?

Gyopo,

Mine's an old Dwight Shuh pack from Cabelas. The straps that came with it are kinda uncomfortable after a long hump, but it worked great for packing out.

Speckmisser,
Thanks for the reply. I think my setup is like yours.

BTW, great job everybody!
I've driven by Tejon many times and wondered what the hunting is like.
Those are some awesome hills! The animal could only be 50 yards away when you shoot it, but it may take 2 miles down and up to get to the prize.

Hopefully I'll get there soon.

From the pictures and the stories, it is obvious that I missed a great time.
I will try to go on at least one of the Ham slams next year. I was booked with clients and couldn't go.

I will definately be on one of the trips next year.

Great pigs guys. Congrats to all of you. THank God you survived the 7 mm blowing up on you.
