Dwikkles, I apologize, I realize now that you were the Op'r and my comment wasn't directed at you specifically but I could see how you could take it personally since this is your thread... You are entitled to you opinion of coarse that's what I value the most about this forum. My knee jerk reaction was from yet another thread on how "Tejon is too expensive" from someone who has never hunted there. The pig management hunts will still be around $500 bucks (used to be $450) For me that is the best deal within 200 miles. The ranch is so loaded with pigs it just doesn't make sense to go anywhere else if you live within that 200 mile radius. Unless of course you have private property to hunt on. But I do not.
I agree about all the other guided hunts. I wouldn't pay $1200 for a guided pig hunt. Like the man said, " I would take a trip to Texas first and shoot all the hogs I wanted for that kinda $$$" The only thing close to that price is Mel Carter's deal but that is only once a year and it always falls on a weekend I can't go. There is Dee dee's in Bryson Hisperia but look at the success rate... Point is don't knock it till you tried it. Again I'm sorry for being such a smart-a$$ and welcome to the forum...

Wow...

Some people you can just tell they're a douche by the way they talk. Just a random thought I had.

Must've been raised in Cali

Its not about where people are raised, but how they were raised. Some are raised just ignorant. Catch my drift bra!

Apology accepted k_rad.

The $500 option I am totally cool with. I wouldnt mind doing that myself. I think thats fare for the amount of opportunity I hear they provide. It was the $1200 pig hunt and $1300 or whatever Turkey hunt that just struck me as blasphemous to the hunting community haha. But, part of it may be jealousy of people who CAN afford it. Although I truly meant when I said i'd rather spend that money on an out of state hunt. I get the same feeling with these damn gas prices.

Now, what is this Mel Carter hunt? I hadn't heard of that yet. I heard Chopper was really good for archery hunters.

And BIGCIM, I think most people avoid Bighorn Canyon because its a high fence operation. I heard it was good if you just want a kill though. And pretty close for most SoCal residents.

I am a former spring pass holder so i know how good the hunting is there. I think as far as pigs go it is great, but I don't think any pig hunt is worth 1200 dollars. just my two cents. the 500 dollar management hunt is alright but if you read the rules they are narrowing the hunt time. noon friday til noon sunday that is a tight window for a 500 dollar hunt in my opinion. in the old pigorama days we could hunt to sunset on sunday. I guess they can charge what the market can bear. it is there choice it is our choice whether to pay for it. not happy about it just the way it is.

Ive always wanted to hunt Tejon, but with prices like that its not gonna happen. Hopefully Roberts will open up before spring 13. It should be loaded.

You could fly to Texas and stay for a week and shoot all the hogs you want for that.

If u can, do. If u can't, don't. If you can, enjoy it and thank god. If u can't, thank god and make a plan to make it happen. Simple as that. If only the country was run this way.

It doesn't matter how long the place sat without a management hunt, someone is going to get skunked. The success rate is usually about 40% and not everyone gets to shoot their gun. It is a great place to hunt and your opportunity for success is very high but saying the place will be a "slaughter zone" is a bit out of place, sounds a little weird also. I'm glad it opened back up, i will probably do a couple of the hunts to make up for this years lose.
If you are hunting it for the first time don't look for a honey hole, the whole place is a honey hole. Just apply what you know and you will have a good time. And don't follow people around looking to get a spot out of it!
$500 is a deal to get a great spot to hunt and not have to walk behind a guide. I just hope the first few hunts aren't like rifle deer opener in socal.

when you have to pull out the calculator to compare and justify in state hunting cost with out of state travel expense + hunt... time to move out of state.

get my what-a-burger ready.. i want to move to tx. lol I read sumwere about a place in tx that has night hunts and they do everything for u and even have u shoot there guns with night vision. Not how i would want to hunt all the time but dang what a smoking deal to get sum good food.( thats what im after. just want meat hogs) $150 for first hog and $50 for the next one. Oh i also think its no tags needed. Tx seems to get that hogs are not sum cool big game. They are trouble but can make for good food. I cant recall the ranch name.. mayb sumone knows????

Man this thread is all over the place!!!! Yes tejon guided hunts are crazy expensive, but there is no place like it in ca. And all of you that have spent a weekend on the ranch know this! I have been up there more weekends then all you combined on this thread and can tell you that even though things are different up there it's still worth every penny. I have the fall access and have been up the last 3 Fridays in a row and Krad is right in most of his post!!!! There is no where in cal where you will see and experience the wildlife that only tejon offers.
And for all of you considering the management hunts, they are north and south side, and instead of 40-60 hunters, they are allowing 80!!! Yes I said 80 per side!!!!! That's a lot of people running around with loaded rifles....
I will be up there this weekend with 4 buddies enjoying the ranch, so for all of you that say its outrageously expensive, go to Texas and enjoy the scenery or FHL and the dust...I have been to both and you can't even compare the cost, spec was 1000% correct on the cost breakdown.
