Ironworker,
That 3 hour hump out of a Tejon HellHole is not too unusual. Sure, you can find 'em in better places sometimes, but the terrain gets steep fast... and vehicle access is limited to established roads only. Makes for a challenge, and is part of the reason you hear so many recommendations for "lots of rope."
By the way, December 2004 was pretty unusual in the snowfall and temps, so that picture was fairly unusual. However it never pays to underprepare, as February in those hills can be tricky and snow is definitely a real possibility, especially on the higher ridges. The wind can be a screamer any time of year, and February rain storms can get ugly fast.
Most of all, watch out for fog, which on those roads in the canyons can be a lot worse than any other weather condition... and it's pretty common in February. Visibility can drop to nothing in a flash.
Weather be danged, you guys are gonna have a blast! Wish I could make it.
