What's up with Tejon? Not many post or talk about the ranch. Are you all still hunting hogs and not posting here, or has hunting slowed down up there??? :hog chewing:

Might have to do with their price increase to 1,200 for weekday and 1,400 for weekend or 1,800 if you go by yourself. Those prices are absurd in my opinion.

Ironically, just saw an episode of a hunting show on cable tv that was recorded while pig hunting on Tejon Ranch.

My buddy and his dad are members. They invite me most times that they go. Last couple trips were in November and December. Bad weather both times saw a good amount of pigs but only got one. We are supposed to go in March but with all this rain we have had the hunting might be tough. In the spring after rains the pigs tend to just stay in the thick stuff 24/7. They don't have to move around to find food and water

I couldn't imagine paying to shoot a pig, and definitely not what Tejon charges. I can go out of state and shoot a deer for the price they want for some bacon.

Bring back the pig"O"rama and we might see an increase in the number of posting on all of the hunting forum. for me it is very hard to schedule and form a group at the same time.

Rates for the spring went up a bunch and packages were unreasonable for my family
In the news Wednesday (bakersfield Californian) our longtime Tejon friend Jodi and others are suing the ranch for hostile work environment. I hope we all come to our senses, i will surely miss the place after 40 years off and on

Sad to see that paper and news about the lawsuit. Sounds like things have not been going right up there for a while. On a side note..... I also hear from a worker that many of the pig hunting members are no longer the same. Made hints to the fact that they are cutting back on guys that abuse there membership in any way. That comment from a employee made me wonder about some of the members that used to post here all the time??? Lol

Dont make accusation on members without any evidence that they are from JHO . Just because of burn bridges awhile back.

I was recently looking at their prices and was disgusted with what I seen. Back in the day their program offered approximately 7 months of access at a reasonable price given the central location and all the beautiful landscape, history, and wildlife including the opportunity to add a pig tag at 300 with the fee decreasing at 50 dollar increments for each pig taken tell they were free during that buy in time. It gave the regular Joe an opportunity of a lifetime to have the illusion of solitude and peace that close to home whether it was on a regular weekend or a 4th of July holiday. Shame to see the changes. I think everyone here on this board that hasn't had the pleasure to experience this ranch would fall in love with it immediately. I for one miss all the adventures we all had and friends/stories we shared.

In 2012, the ranch suspended all hunting, following a 2011 California Department of Fish and Game investigation into the illegal killing of mountain lions. The investigation was initiated by a whistleblower who filed a lawsuit.[SUP][4][/SUP]

But I'm guessing they have fences to keep the cattle in? I'm more curious about their Elk hunting and how it is managed...high fence or free range fair chase?

Cattle fence will not deter any game animal from jumping in and out of the ranch. so to answer your question , they are all free range.
I dont work there so cant comment on their operation. its up to you to search.

Adam32, its 270k acres with some private property within the ranch, by no means is it a high fence operation and is completely fair chase. After the DFG investigation the Hunting part of business was completely changed for the worse in my opinion. I had gone on a few Pig-O-Ramas in the past and organized the last few that were part of this site, those were always fun but will never happen again due to Tejon stopping the management hunts. I am sure soon enough the ranch will be golf course and luxury homes.

Do you know if their elk are eligible to be scored for the Boone and Crockett record books?

That's funny. All I said is that it makes me wonder? Oh and I have no burned bridges. I consider myself and the LtCol lucky that we had no part in braking any rules on the ranch. Now after reading the newspaper,I just curious as to how everything will play out. Thank you for your replay.

From what I read in the newspaper, there are a few different things going on. One has to do with the ranch management and abuse of how things run. It was behind doors, kind of a good old boys.... Or private club. The story says that court docs show that hunts are moved or made not available to reg joe and there for used only for vip or family of ranch.

I'm sure there is lots more and we all have to read and watch the news for court information as it comes out.
Thank you for your reply. Sounds like you had sum good times up there.

I was told that there are 20 tags still and the price is now over 25k. You are guaranteed a shot on a trophy elk. I think the ranch is around 270k acres. No fence to hold game in. Just as markers of there land and to keep cattle off roads. Best of luck if you do this hunt. Please share with us. It is something very few guys will ever get to do.
