Have you hunted the south lately? I am going to Tejon for the management hunt on the May 8 weekend which I think is on the south ranch only. :pig-laughing:

Yeah hunted the south several times the past couple months, most recently about 2.5 weeks ago.

There's plenty of piggy spots either side! You just have to glass alot, suggest getting up high and watching drainages that have a thick bottom and thick hillsides with smaller grassy openings (and plenty of visible pig trails), or even better, a hillside with all of that plus a hard edge between thick trees/brush and a large grass area. Driving between a few different good glassing areas at prime time, spending plenty of time glassing should work to see plenty of pigs. Most of the prime areas to glass will need a little 100 to 300 yard walk from the roads. Longer walks and still hunting (along with glassing and spot and stalk when you can) are usually productive as well. You can see pigs all day so don't give up and limit your hunt to just the early morning and late evening.

Good luck, you'll love the ranch!

Cool video, I was going to commend you on keeping it PG and then at the end, you made me feel a lot better about our video in Feb when I threw F bombs throughout. Can't wait to get back there next month.

Sweet video, and cool encounter. Granted there are more pigs in that vid than I'll see in the next 10 years on public. Send me some luck eh?

Thanks for the info. I hunted the south last year, May. We had opportunities, but those pigs never stop moving.

Hunting day or overnight trips on the Tejon spring access for us has become more fun just getting out there and learning, getting into hogs... Not really focused on getting one all the time. On that trip we were mainly trying to get a buddy a pig but he had to leave early and missed all the fun. That was the kind of opportunity we were hoping for him!

Can't agree with you more but we also like shooting squirrels during the mid day, the only problem is it cuts into your nap time which sometimes you really need after hiking the hills chasing pigs.
Another fun thing to do is find some pig beds and slowly creep around the brush, it's amazing how many pigs and stalks you can get on. This year I'm strictly hunting with the bow just love the thrill of getting close and they are easier to track than with that damnable cooper bullets. I have not taken one this year but the 16th I know I'll have one in the freezer.
